Overhead ambience lighting complete/pics
I previously posted on this subject several weeks ago, and completed the install today. I am very pleased with the results, and the install (1 hour)was fairly simple.I decided to install the 5mm LED's in the overhead sunglass holder, which has always been pretty useless for anything anyway.I used amber LED's to match the lighting in the car.I drilled (2) 7/32 holes in the holder and used a chrome bezel. There are other types of bezels on the market, and to swap these out is a simple thing. The power comes from the overhead lighting, and for now, I decided to use the left overhead light by removing the bulb and connecting my wiring to the posts. This allows use of the push on/off to power the LED's.This was the easiest way I could think of since the right overhead light is more than enough to light the interior. I suppose these could be wired to come on when the car is turned on, but for now it will do.The lighting is a nice soft glow that covers the console,( like the BMW) and being amber, very easy on the eyes.![Overhead ambience lighting complete/pics-p1000536.jpg](https://g35driver.com/forums/attachments/interior/27049d1206229800t-overhead-ambience-lighting-complete-pics-p1000536.jpg)

The power can in fact be pulled from the mirror. All the wiring comes through to this point under the overhead lighting panel.I did change the bezel's to a almost flush mount, and color matched the bezel's to look factory.Another FYI, is to scuff the led's as to soften the light, and increase the light coverage from the intense pinpoint light.

Very nice, looks like you did a really clean install. I was considering doing something similar, just lower in the car Ie foot well / below the waist somewhere but I am unsure where to pull the power from or if i should just run some wheres to the battery.
Do you have them on while driving? Do you have any glare issues on the interior windows?
Thanks.

Isn't it easier to just buy some better bulbs from PIAA or http://autolumination.com/? .... more expensive, but... OEM looking at least.

i think the look he was going for was "ambiance lighting" similar to what's found on some BMW models... the little LEDs are on always, and provide a soft light "glow" inside the car even when the overhead lights are off... i don't think they were meant to supplement the light from the maplights

ultrabright white LEDs would be slightly more obtrusive than lower intensity (and sanded for better diffusion) amber ones i think.
some people would probably criticize the red glow emanating from below my dash (from a pair of red LED "disks", it gives off a nice even red glow with no hotspots), but i don't think it's cheap or ricey. to each his own i suppose. i'm eventually going to wire mine with a relay to the door pin circuit so they will only come on when the doors are opened
falcon50driver, any pics of the updated (and less conspicuous) LED bezels?
