The front seat ripped! Its brand new! UPDATE!

We get in to leave yesterday and notice a 90 degree by 90 degree rip in the leather on the driver seat, I say it ripped because it is frayed like it ripped. We do not ever have anything in our pockets to do any damage like this, so I called my salesperson and told him, he says we will have to bring it back in to let them look at it to determine if it was faulty from the factory or we supposedly did it. My question is do I have an arguement or are they going to tell me thats its our fault and to fix it ourself? There is no gouge in the foam underneath the leather, so I say it had to have ripped from some sort of pressure. Any thought would be appreciated. By the way it only has 450 miles on it.
Thanks Brent

A picture might help with the answer.

I dont have a picture of it, sorry. But I would say fraying is a good indication of a tear, not like a cut which would have a smooth tear.

i have something similar with my '05. i have what looks like a tear along 3 or 4 of the hole perforations on my drivers seat. i don't wear my wallet or carry anything in my back pockets so i have no clue how i got it. pissed me off the first time i saw it. i've had to live with it as my dealer says they can't do anything... it's a wear-and-tear complaint. i think it's just cheap leather. i have other cracks in my seat along the perforations (not the flat sides) and am worried that these will eventually turn into tears as well. guess u just gotta live with it. keep us posted if the dealer fixes it for u... it may persuade me to try another dealer.

I would agree from your description that it sounds more like a tear. It's very had to say how the dealer will respond to this.

Good luck.

the dealership where i purchased my car offered me optional insurance on the leather, for around $3-400. if the seat ever rips, even thru my own doing, it will be replaced. i was very careful to check every square inch of my car both inside and out to make sure there was nothing wrong when i picked it up. how long have you had the car?

i don't think you caused the rip yourself, it's very hard to rip the leather by accident... a few times while working on my car i have sat down on my screwdrivers.... if my 220lb *** pushing a screwdriver into it won't puncture it, i don't know what will. however, unless you can prove that it came from the dealership that way, i doubt they will fix it for free.

I DO think that the leather isn't QUALITY leather, as mine is wrinkled, cracked, and baggy in certain spots. i will be re-doing my interior with custom leather in the next few months anyway so i'm not losing sleep over it.

Wouldnt you consider leather that tore within two weeks faulty from the factory, all she does is sit in it.

Just an update, they fixed everything I asked them to, and under warranty too. I couldnt ask for anything more. A big thumbs up to Jackie Cooper Imports in Tulsa Oklahoma.
