D2R vs D2S

Hi, I am planning to buy the Philips 6000k Ultinons, but I am confused with the standards that people here are using. In some threads, people are putting on D2S's on their G, but some are going the D2R route. I have checked out the lamp guides, and I'm pretty certain that the G uses D2R's? I have also seen that the bulbs look different as well, so I just want to be sure before buying the wrong bulb. Can someone explain the difference between the two, and maybe why I'm seeing both being mentioned here on g35driver? Aside from that, if I only get the bulbs, it would be okay to use my stock g35 ballasts, correct? I won't need to buy a whole HID kit right? I drive an '06 G35X.

Thanks!!

yes you can use the ultinons fine with what you have, plug and play

D2S --> projectors

D2R --> reflectors

I see But if D2S is for projector, and D2R is for reflector, then it would make a big diff which one I buy, cuz if i have reflectors and buy the D2S, then I would have made a mistake huh...does that mean older G's have different kinds of lights than the newer ones (03-04 vs 05-06)? Or is the difference between the coupe/sedan? What do I have? Sorry I'm very new to this.

Thanks,

Acemanic

you would want the D2R's. The 06 and up coupe models have projectors which is why they use the D2S bulbs. I think the D2S will work on a relflector but you would probably have to modify it. Just save yourself the hassel and get the D2R

#1 is a D2R, #2 is a D2S.

If you use the D2S in your reflector based headlamp, you will get extra glare which will only annoy oncoming drivers. There isn't any benefit to your projected light pattern for where you need it. So all you need is the D2R bulb, you won't need anything else for your HID setup.
