+1

This was a custom mod, not just a drop in bulb solution.

Probably not, if there was, I doubt MidnightG35X would have gone through the trouble of custom making his own

There is an example of someone who used a premade strip for cheap. I did not go that route for a few reasons.

1. I wanted complete control over the parts used (I have no idea which exact LED's are in those strips)

2. I did not want them exactly like that. I wanted more LED's and a blinker function also.

3. I like doing my own projects like this

So if you are looking for premade strips, that above post should help ya out. Good luck!

The only easy way is to install some very bright 194 LED's in there. I had that before and it was nice and bright but nothing like this!

Thanks. I split the lens assembly at the "pointed" corner. All I did was take a dremel, make a very small cut between the lens and the backing until you could see inside the lens, then gentle prying with a screwdriver got the rest off. The glue holding it together is not super strong, so prying with the screwdriver worked great.

man, i'm seriously considering this mod (yours, not the cheap premade strips from superbright) but I don't have access to all the soldering tools since i've changed jobs. have you had any problems like fogging in the lens or the infamous flickering of cheap quality LED's. i haven't pulled up the link to the place you bought them at but they look to be high quality. Those are SMT's, correct?

I have not had any problem with lens fogging. No LED flickering problems either. Using a high quality LED and not overdriving them will make your LED last a long time. For this project, the key to not overdriving the LED's is using a proper size resistor. My LED's are not SMT, they are in a 4-DIP package. This makes it a lot easier to use a breadboard that can be had at any radio shack or electronics supplier. A PCB is unnecessary for this simple of a project, although it can be made (I think I made one after the fact for some reason). I am not a huge fan of higher power SMT's.... I really don't want to do thermal planning to deal with the small area/high heat issue. Here is a picture of the package:

Hi Midnight, how did you manage to take the corner light apart, from your photo looks like you didn't had to force it. I tried to bake it and but the glue is not budging. I tried the hate at 200, 250, and finally at 300 and the light start to deform.
Thanks,

Midnight, I have the Yellows and red-orange led's like yours (HP/Agilent Lumileds HPWT-DH00 and DL00). Do you know of any good Blue leds that are this style? I'd like to put blue and yellow into my corners. Reds are going in my tails.

Thanks,
I took a dremel to the corner (pointy corner... one on the top side closest to the doors) just enough to cut through (maybe a 1" cut). Once you get that initial cut, just throw it in the oven for 3 minutes at 250. Take it out, use a flathead screwdriver in the cut you made and pry up. Should come apart very easy. The glue is not that strong on the clear corners, nothing compared to the taillight stuff that requires you to dremel the entire thing

Make sure you fill the dremel hole with epoxy or silicone after you put the lights back together.

Any brand name LED would probably be fine (Lite-On, Lumileds, Cree, Osram, Nichia). Below is are some links to a couple... all depends on what you want.

You will most likely have to change your resistor values also due to blue LED's having higher voltage. Blue will always appear less bright than red or amber due to being less efficient. Also, you have to deal with legalities of using blue in any of your lights

I see you have an X which means you do not get to wire into a clearance strip like the coupe guys can.

I would be interested in knowing what wires you tapped into to flash the blinkers.

I have most of my parts just was curious how you have the blinking row working
