G35 coupe tail light mod?

Here's one for the electrical geniuses out there. On my G35 coupe I'd like to have my rear turn signal lamps light with the rest of the LEDs in regular driving mode. But, still have it blink on/off or dim/bright when signaling for a turn. Right now the outer lamps are dark except when signaling. Reason? Purely aesthetic, to make the car look wider and more GTR-like.

I'm not an electric geniuse, but I think you can easilly do this with a trail hitch adapter from Kragen. I used this on my gixxer to integrate the blinkers into the rear tail light. the adapter is only about $14.

Great idea, and if it doesn't work I'm only out $14. Thanks

if you need the part # let me know. also I can get you the wiring diagram that I used on my bike. I know it's not the same as the g35, but it'll give you an idea how the adapter works.

oh i forgot to add.

-You might want to get some extra fuses just in case.
-maybe look into some LED blinkers because I don't know if the housing was made for the constant heat of the bulb.
-mark and map the wires out before you start cutting and splicing.

Re: G35 coupe tail light mod?

Well I just pulled the taillight cluster and am pretty intimidated. I thought if I could buy a socket for the front turn signal that might simplify things. Of course, you can't just buy just the socket (according to the dealer). I checked out the trailer kit and it looked like the light would already have to work the way I want it to to begin with. So, maybe your diagram might help.

The other issue is, can I tie into the wiring thats going to the LEDs? I have no idea if there is a voltage issue. The closest regular bulb is the license plate light. Would that make my license plate blink on/off with the turn signals?

I don't think the heat of the bulb would be a problem as long as I can step down the the light output. Supposedly the bulb is the same as those used for the front signals.

Anyway I better get it put back together before it gets dark. Appreciate all the ideas.

Re: G35 coupe tail light mod?

LOL ok bro you asked for it.
I did a quick search down memory lane on gixxer.com. There used to be a nice diagram, but I couldn't find it. Instead I stumbled upon this guys page that has massive literature on "how to's". To make our rear blinkers running lights I had the same idea as you and tap into the main lights. I found another answer on how to get them run though. I just glanced at the diagrams and directions, but was overwhelmed. I'll just leave that up to you to figure out . Naw I'll try to figure it out along with you.

thanks to bugman of gixxer.com. If there are any electricians on here, please help us out.

Re: G35 coupe tail light mod?

ah nevermind. There was too much to read on the page about making blinkers running lights. You don't want single fillament blinkers either, it's hard to tell when they are blinking at times.

How about a seperate running light? Make a ring of LED's around the center blinker. That would look nice. Plus it'll match the rest of the LED's. I just need to find a clean way to pull the tail lights apart. The headlight is simple, the tail light is made a bit different.
