Does anyone have an idea of the highest valued (Ohm) resistor that can be used for a load resistor? These 3 ohm 50W ones seem like massive overkill!

I guess another way to state the same question is does anybody know the minimum current needed before the BCM forces the hyperblink?

I think that mod would look good behind a clear lens. I don't like the look of exposed LED's.

Anyone know the approximate diameter of inside of the turn signal reflector?

so you gonna do that 50 LED array in the turn signals or what? that'd be HOT with your quads

Be sure to address heat issues with that many closely packed LED's or you may find that they don't last long at all

I think with those standard 20mA 5mm (maybe 3mm?) LED's you'd be OK heatwise.

You could replace every one of those LED's with a single luxeon. Or if you want to go to the other extreme, get a whole bunch more surface mount LED's in the same amount of area.

The original is a nice concept, not my cup of tea, but props for the work!

3x1w luxeons will probably be your best bet with some type of LED driver. Ill post up a video of a device Im working on at work that will probably fit in there. I don't know if that '50 LED chip" has the LED's in parrallel or series or a combo of both, but if its in series and 1 LED dies, the whole chain goes with it. I had a flashlight with a similar setup. MidnightG35X could even come up with some led pattern + his sequential board which would be cool too.

I'm really considering putting the LEDs in my turn signals. I can pick up the parts at radio shack to make my own resisters right?? $10 for a pair of resisters from VLED seems awfully expensive.

$10 gets you what type of resistors? If that is power resistors (20W+) that's pricey, but not insane I guess in the commercial sector. If it is normal 1/4 watt resistors, yes that is insane. I am not sure what you mean by making your own resistors, but I assume you mean buying the resistors somewhere else and hooking them up yourself? But yes, you can wire in your own resistors. What type of LED's are you planning to use by the way?

These are the resisters that I was talking about.

What I was wondering if these parts are available cheaper somewhere else.

These are the bulbs that was thinking of getting.

For a 6 ohm 50 watt, that price isn't really that bad. Digikey prices seem to reflect that for the most part. Especially since at vleds its for 2 and they include the quick splices.
