85122cm D2S bulbs
Hey all,
I'm in touch with a vendor who carries the elusive 85122cm bulbs by Philips. I was going to try negotiating a group buy with him since I've seen interest for these bulbs in these forums. So I have some questions about this:
1. How are group buys normally setup? Does one person collect the money, make the bulk purchase, receive all product, and then ship the products out to each buyer?
2. Or does the vendor just handle all transactions/shipping, and as long as each buyer mentions the group buy, they get the negotiated rate?
Thanks,
B

I think two is the most popular.
How much are we looking at.
If it's below the price of the current ultinons I will be interested in getting at least a set. I have contacts in japan just that he is too lazy to go and get them for me.
Also I hope the vendor is not japan parts because they overcharge everything.

No, it's not Japan Parts...basically here's what I was told.
The cost of a pair of 85122cm bulbs is $178 + $36 shipping (from Europe). If we were to buy 10 pairs, the cost would be $163 per pair instead. And I believe we would only pay $36 shipping for the entire 10 bulbs as long as they were all shipped to one location. So that would bring the cost of each pair to around 166.60 + domestic shipping. However, to get this best possible price on this "group buy", all 10 pairs would have to be sent to one person (aka distributor) who would distribute them out. In these situations, I imagine the distributor would need to get the money from all interested parties first so he/she could make the purchase from the supplier. I can also see that this method is a bit more risky to some since they have to send their money to a mediator rather than directly to a vendor. Are group buys sometimes handled this way?
If we instead have the supplier send the bulbs directly to each buyer, they will enforce the $36 shipping for each pair, then the cost would instead be $199. This is still a savings of $15 off the "regular price". If this is the preferred method for getting the discount, I will check to see if they can do a group buy this way and send the lamps directly to each buyer.
But of course all of this assumes I can find 9 other people who are interested. Should I post this in the group buy section?
Thanks,
B

Yeah, I just bought a set of 85122's as well. Then I was able to touch base with a few vendors and can get the bulbs I really wanted. Let's see how this thing pans out.

Paul...can you swap out HID bulbs without taking the bumper off? If so, count me in.

Yeah I thought about that but wasn't sure if this is really a group buy yet. It's more of an inquiry to see if anyone knows about the process for conducting a group buy so I can get the details in order.
Do you guys think I should move it? If so, how can I request that this post be moved to the Group Buy forum?
