What are CITY lights?

Was looking at replacing my fog lights with some luminics h4 (which will eventually match the fog lights to be installed behind my front bumper mesh) but cant figure out what are city lights?

When I switch on my lights - one click - those are the regular really dim lights that come on - are they 9003/H4 or 9003/H1.

Next click on the light switch is the low beam - are they 9003/D2S or 9003/D2R? Ive read someone's post who said 06 coupe and 07 sedan are d2s while 06 sedan are d2r. SO which is true?

Then I flick the switch front for high beam - D2R/ 9003 HB2 - is this right?

The city lights on the '03-'04 sedan are the 168/194 type bulb. I replaced mine with bluish white LEDs

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I was under the impression that the '05-'06 sedans don't have city lights like in the '03-'04. But in the case of the OP who's from Dubai, perhaps the '05-'06 sedans sold there seem to have city lights.

Although I'm pretty sure this information is already posted somewhere on the forum, here goes:

Parking lights/city lights - 168 (or 194)
Low beams - For 06 sedan, Sylvania website says HID-D2S
High beams/fog light - 9003/HB2

You're right about the parking lights (they aren't that bright) - that's what they are called. My manual doesn't say they are 168 but only mentions the wattage 5w.

Now according to Sylvania:

High beam - 9003/HB2
Low beam - HID-D2S
Fog light - 9003/HB2

According to my manual :

High beam (lower bulb) - 60w/55w H4 or 60w H4
Low beam (upper bulb) - 35w D2R

So Sylvania is wrong on the low beam being D2S.

I still cant find the flipping fog light - im assuming it is the high beam!

I remove my city lights. I couldn't stand the yellow light and didn't want to spend the money on replacement bulbs.

clint,

the 05-06 sedan headlights have a 9003/H4 bulb in the lower reflector - that bulb has 2 filaments - high + low. the low is used for the fog and the high is used for the normal high beam

the upper reflector is an HID D2R 35w bulb - NOT D2S, as D2S is used in coupe projector lights. D2R bulbs have a metal shield around the base of the bulb that prevents them from causing glare when used in a non-projector housing

if the pic you posted is of a 03-04 sedan headlight, then the small offset bulb is a 194 city light bulb - not a fog. i'm not sure if the lower reflector on the 03-04 sedans are setup to use H4/9003 like the 05-06 - it could just use a single filament bulb. i believe it's the same on 03-04 coupes as well. any sedan 05-06 will not have a city light bulb in it, unless modded for that purpose.

that said, i'm running 9003/H4 luminics (JDM yellow) in my lower reflector and they work great...

I had the Piaa LED 194's in my city lights before I did the lower projectors and halos. They made the whole housing glow at night which was cool.

it costs 2 dollars to replace those lights. I first got hyper white ones which matched my 8000k hid's and worked great. Then I decided I wanted to change it up a bit so i got some spark blue bulbs for $2.50 from Japan. Sick as hell and are great bulbs. http://stores.ebay.com/warden-jp2002 He sells all kinds of lights. It's worth it. Looks awesome.

thanks a lot Dahkyne. You have a 2006 sedan right - i searched

Since you are running the h4 luminics - do you have any heat issues since you swapped them in from the stock Osram?

Also these Luminics H4 in the lower reflector - any issues using them with high beam?

interesting. depends on market i'm guessing, 'cos all the 05-06 sedans i've ever worked on don't have a city light bulb.

i wish mine did.

as for heat issues - you may encounter slight fogging of the outer lens if the high wattage part of the 9003/H4 bulb is used extensively. i would lay 2 coats of meguiars plastx on the outer lens if you see this happening. the low wattage filament hasn't had any effect. works well and gets lots of looks at night.

Thanks man.

Since you don't have the 168 city/parking light, what lights turn on when you make the first click on the light control? For me it is the city light + clear corners + rear tails.

Well im dropping by the dealer today regarding the fog lights in the lower bumper. Will speak to them about swapping the city lights and H4's for piaa & luminics jdm yellows

Got back from the dealer. They said no problem to swapping out the H4 and 168 parking light for me as long as they are the same wattage - 60/55w for H4 and 5w for 168.

But looking at the Luminics Krypton Titanium White or Krypton JDM Yellow their rating is:

Kelvin: 5500k
Acutal Wattage: 12v 60/55w
Projected Wattage: 135/130w

Won't the projected wattage kill the fuse? Also these Luminics H4 bulbs come with the harness - is that really necessary.

The more I think about swapping out the H4 bulbs the more I get worried of burning out the wires because of the wattage.
