orange turn signals on with parking lights...

and still blinks normally? i understand that the coupe is already setup like that and was wondering if anyone has done this for a sedan........

Re: orange turn signals on with parking lights...

Let me take a shot at this.... I'm not sure I understand the question...

If I understand you, you want to turn your turn signal light on when you start the car and have it stay on. But, you want the light to still flash with the turn signals? Here we go!

Two standard automotive relays will be needed.

Pin #
85 - ground
86 - Turn signal signal to bulb (pulses 12dc when turn signal is on)
30 - 12vdc switched ignition (only 12 when car is on)
87a - To Turn signal bulb
87 - not connected

Basically, cut the wire that goes to each turn signal bulb. Take the wire that is coming from the car's BCM and put it to the coil of the relay (pin 86). Hook up the common terminal to a wire that only has 12volts when the car is on. Hook the normally closed terminal (87a) up to the bulb itself. This way, when the car is on and the flasher is not flashing power will flow from 30 to 87a. Once the flaser starts flashing the relay will energize and will open up the 12 volt feed going to the bulb. This will make the bulb flash. Basically, you are just inversing the operation by using the relay (before when it was off it will now be on and when it was on it will now be off).

This works in theory, but, I have a feeling it might not work on the car. One thing to consider is that all the left side turn signals are tied together and they MIGHT be wired in series. If this is the case, this will NOT work as you will break the chain. Most lights on the car are controlled by the BCM though, so it would not be impossible for all turn signals to have seperate outputs from the BCM. Also, in older cars the flashers were designed for specific loads (# of bulbs) if you would remove one bulb the flasher would not flash. I'll look into the schematics for the sedan and see if I can dig anything up.

Re: orange turn signals on with parking lights...

The front and rear turn bulbs are not wired in series, they are wired in parallel from the BCM. This means that this should work. You should be able to basically replace the bulb with the relay like I stated above and use the relay to control when the light is on or not on.

If you have the proper tools and knowledge try it out and see if it works or not. Automotive relays can be purchased for very cheap ($3-$4 at parts store) but you might try and find a waterproof one suitable for under hood mounting. Also, you will need to find an ignition source under the hood capable of driving the turn signals. One suggestion is to use power coming from the main ignition wires under the drivers side dash (that actually go to the keyswitch)

Hope this helps,

Kevin

Re: orange turn signals on with parking lights...

This is funny, because many Coupe owners would rather that their turn signal lights stay off most of the time and only come on when they blink.

People suggest to either cut one of the wires to the blinker or cover one of the contacts with some tape. I hope it's that simple, thou I haven't had the time to try this out yet....

KPierson, thanks for the technical breakdown of the relays.....this thought came to me as i was reading your write-up.......using same relay, tap side marker positive to trigger relay to power the front turn signal bulb(s), one relay per side.......so, in theory, when i turn off the parking lights, they're off as well..................anyhow, time to get a multimeter and pay a visit to radio shack.

Re: orange turn signals on with parking lights...

if the positive(12v pulse) wire is cut from the turn signal, how will it ever blink with no power?

Re: orange turn signals on with parking lights...

supposedly there should be 3 wires. what they are saying is that the 7440/7443 bulbs are dual filament. so I'm guessing it takes 2 positive and 1 ground.
kinda like 2 bulbs in one.

if that is actually true then this should be just as easy as they say right?

but if it's not, then what? =P

Re: orange turn signals on with parking lights...

that sounds about right, i didn't realize the coupe's turn bulbs are dual filaments..........in that case, just cut the constant 12v( and don't forget to but-tap or tape up the live end) and viola! now why didn't they have dual filaments in the sedans? i'm dissappointed! :<

hehe I honestly still have no idea what you guys are talking about....

I'm glad I could be of some technical assistance. I didn't realize the turn signals in my coupe stay on until the turn signal is activated. The dual filament thing does make sense though. Next time I'm home (March 11th) I'll have to check out my car a little closer!!!!
