Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

Afro I'd have you do it for me...

Except...I want hyper white leds for just the side marker running all the time and orange leds for the blinker but I want them on the same time the headlight blinker is on....

do able?

It's do able, but you will need the necessary skills required to tap into the blinker wires. I can have all the wires coming out of the sidemarker for you, but you would need to tap into the right spot. Here are two designs:

hmmm both are very very tempting...ummmm

When they really blink in real life...they aren't that noticably spots right?

Like in the pictures they seem like really defined spots...in real life not as much correct?

If so I like the second one.

Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

what do you mean by tapping the wire skills?

If you can give me a DIY on it...I'm sure i'd be able to do it.

OHHH, the pix didn't blink on my dial-up connection at home. Now I see what your talking about.

The blinking clear corner looks cool, but I think it would draw WAAYYY too much attention from the police.

Hmmm, got me thinking now.

Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

afro - I'm with Sportscoupe35 on this one. I really like the look of the 2 you made up for him, with the white LEDs glowing and the orange LEDs blinking with the turn signals. But, I was wondering if there would be any way to have the white LEDs turn off when the orange blink, so that you wouldn't have 2 colors of LED on at once. Is this possible?

Hey afro.. how much did this mod cost you? I know you live in the NY/NJ area. Wanna come help me with mine one nice saturday? How long did it take you to do yours? I would do my own but it would be better with someone who did it already so I dont mess up, know what I mean?

Yes, that is possible, but it will require more work on your end to tap into the proper wires.

I'm in Bergen County, so sometime in April when the weather gets better, I could help you out. It cost me about $15 total in parts. I went with all amber. The super bright white LEDs cost three times as much as the yellow/amber ones.

afro - where do you purchase LEDs from? I was trying to find a decent place on the internet, but you never can be sure. What do they cost on avg for whites?

Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

Currently, I get my LEDs from superbrightleds.com. They have fast shipping, but I am looking for a different place that offers more variety. Unfortunately, the only wholesale LED places I found were overseas. I don't want to deal with the international shipping hassle so I'm going to stick with this place until I find something new or get complaints about quality.

White LEDs are $1.50 a pop. 22x for both side markers and its already $33.

Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

Here are pics of the modification I did for someone with clear sidemarkers:

Here is a shot of the light output. Only the sidemarkers are on. The wall is about four feet away from the sidemarkers. The shot is also a tad underexposed since there is a lot more ambient lighting giving more detail of the ladder.

I'll have some video of them blinking later tonight once its done encoding.

Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

How did you wire them? In series or parralel? Did you use any resistors?

Re: Custom LED blinking sidemarker

Normally, they are wired in series with a resistor, the value of which is dependent on the number of LEDs in the circuit.
