Technical opinion needed
Hello All,
I ordered a very hard to find Piaa Ion Yellow H4 in 55w, from this website:
http://www.autodynamic.com/
It freaking cleary says 55w on it. But what arrived today was the 80w. The lady who runs the site, admits it is an error that will be corrected, but she says that they send 100s of these bulbs out w/ no complaints or issues. People stick them in anyways, because its such a higher quality bulb. She has no issues w/ a returns or complaints. Now my question is:
1) Whats gonna happen if I put these in? When the stock is 55w instead of 80w?
2) Is it gonna burn out the housing, the relay, or the cables, etc etc.
I know its a risk already, but what do you guys think? I currently have the Piaa Xtreme White H4 (55w) in right now. Thanks and any input would be appreciated.

Re: Technical opinion needed
Shouldn't be a problem. Probably give off the same heat temp as your other set of PIAAs and the Yellow tint may make it appear not as bright. It will come down to personal tastes I think.

It's always possible that the over wattage bulbs might cause problems. Depends if you want to take the risk or not. Always safer to run a separate wiring harness, but don't change the fuse or link to a higher rating if you don't. Also be aware of the risk in the long term about possible reflector damage from the extra heat.

Well.. it's going to draw more current. If the G wiring can handle there will be no problem at all. I have had cars that I put higher wattage bulbs with no problems.
Generally, manufacturers wiring and stuff are conservative.
going from 55W to 80W may burn a fuse. Just install higher rated fuse and hope nothing will happen.
I think you should be ok!

Iq9,
It really irks me too, when you order something and something else freaking arrives. Sucks! I already knew that the 80w was readily available, but the 55w was not. Thanks for everyones help on this, I think I'm just gonna go for it. I know it probably won't last as long and also I can't drive for extended periods of time with them on...... But driving home from work, or from the club, etc etc should be ok. I would turn them off on road trips. Thanks once again everybody. Worst comes to worst, if it does blow something, I'll just put the stock bulbs back in and get Infiniti to fix it.

I order Piaa's Ion Yellow's too but they ran out but that was four months ago so they might have them in stock. So, I went with the Raybrig Hyper Yellow's. They are just as good as the Piaa's. They are the same price and they look awsome. Very similar to the Lexus foglights.

Re: Technical opinion needed
it has nothing to do with the bulbs lasting long. They'll last as long as they should. It's just you might blow a fuse sometime.
That's all.

Re: Technical opinion needed
you'll run the risk for melting the wiring connector, melting the housing, and melting the immediate wiring itself.
Many people have put heavier duty wiring and connectors as well as adding relays to have the higher wattage bulbs perform reliably.
