Philips Ulitnon 6000K are considered best with regard to color fade and longevity but they are far from $5. They will run you between $160-200 a pair.

As long as the size is right, can you use any bulb with our stock ballasts? Or are certain brands only compatible with the stock ballasts?

+1 on MTEC's. Ultinons are over rated on this forum. I've had Ultinons before and MTEC's are by far better than ultinons imo.

How so? Why are they so much better?

The Ultinons seem to be the #1 rated on most forums. I am looking into new bulbs for my lower projectors and would appreciate any 1st hand experience.

Ultinons give off a white-purplish color while the MTEC's are more of a white-bluish color. The MTEC's are also brighter than the Ultinons. I have some pictures on my home computer that i'll have to find when i get home.

im super happy with my ultinons. color is perfect i think. has a gorgeous blue when they start up and fades into more white. i went with philips because they are known for excellent quality. expensive but you get what you pay for.

I'm assuming all of you who have upgraded to better HID bulbs had to take the front bumper off? Seems like that's the only way to get to em and swap em out...

no offense or anything, but have you tried the MTEC's? Ultinons are definietly quite different compared to stock. If its the first set of bulbs you have ever tried and nothing else, then you would be happy becuase it was a big change from stock. But down the road, if you ever decide to try another set of bulbs, try the MTECs and I'm sure you'll be happy with them.
