Re: Those who changed to D2S bulbs...

Just be careful of those bulbs. They claim 3500 lumens for their 8000K bulb which is impossible. The best 4100-4300K bulbs are usually around 3200 lumens. Philips ultinons at 6000k are rated at 2400-2800 lumen.

I got a set of Philips Ultinons D2Rs that I'm going to put in this weekend. I was planning on getting the D2S but I found a great deal on the D2R's. Anyway, I'm going to experiment with the stock bulbs and scrape away the ceramic shielding to see if there is any additional glare. If there is, I'll leave the ultinons alone and just install them as is. If there isn't, I'll modify the ultinons.

Hmmm... why are the bulbs on this site so cheap?
has anyone ordered from them?

6000k D2R bulbs are only $59.99?

Well I made the swap earlier today and the color of the ultinons are great. Pure white with just a touch of purple.

I took out the stock bulbs and scraped the ceramic coating off one and re-installed it. It was a touch brighter but the cutoff (which is not that great anyway stock) was a little more blurry. I decided to leave the ultinons as is. I do think that you could use D2S bulbs if you wanted as there isn't much additional glare. The cutoff won't be as sharp though.

a little off the topic here, but... can the fog lights replace the HID's or is this hazardous in some way? Yes I realize they'll look like crap, I'm just curious. thx

i think that was clear. Its real easy, the only hard part about the installation is jacking up the car, taking off the wheel and taking the inner wheel well out. From there is a piece of cake. Just take some time to read it. Thats it buddy. He HE
