well idk how good you are at electricial, i got the fixtures open and messed with mine, you could do the same.
im not sure on a coupe, but i know for the sedan if you get to the back of the fixture for the brake light, theres a plastic fixture with 2 wires goin to it that you twist and it pops out and the reverse bulb is mounted to it. so your idea would be make one reverse light for reverse and the other a bright red bulb?
ps- im kinda curious, what does that switch look like?
the idea was to have the fog bulb instead of the reverse light bulb and rewire it to the switch which doesnt do anything. that would have worked, but i dont think anyone here has this "seal" stuff to put it all back together

ill see if i can take a picture tomorrow. but its just like a regular switch wtih a small light on it.just a regular black switch.
i dont think id be going ahead with this electrcial biz, if u said you messed with yours..i shud definately stay away. thank you all the same though.

i guess i am going to have to have some big old box light underneath the license plate now. got no other choice. frickity frik!

thank you so much guys. really helped me out. ill post pics of the final ugly a$$ light in a weeks time. the cars going in for it on tuesday. hopefully hel make it inconspicuous...even better, once it passes the mot test (road worthy test) ill be able to unscrew it till next years mot!

So, what's stopping you from putting a red bulb in place of the reverse light like you mentioned earlier? You can always cut the harness and splice it to turn on with your fog lights or parking lights...

You might want top look into JDM tails.. I think they have to have rear fogs in Japan too, but I'm not 100% on that so don't quote me...

to answer your question, you need to pop off the rear finisher in the trunk, then there will be 2 or 3 8mm gold nuts that you have to loosen and the taillight housing will slide out of the car and from the back of the housing, you can then access all your bulbs.

whats stopping me is that when i pulled hte tail light unit out before, to take off the casing (the big red bit exposed to the outside) it wasnt a clip on cover, it was all sealed up.im just scared to not be able to seal it back up (as per the pic you posted). it says about seals not being re-usable.i dont think i can get my hands on it

ill take a look at JDM tails. if japan have rear fogs, it must not be illegal not to have em, because mines a *** import without r-fogs.

can u believe, a simple light is setting be back around $250? its ridiculously expensive in uk to mod ur car or repair it.
thanks again

HOUSING. thats the word. lol.
i managed to get the taillight housing out.. but its all sealed up to prevent moisture build up. i could go as far as disconnecting the wire going into the LED cluster..and see the back of the circuit board they are connected to but the rest of the bulbs are inaccessible unless you break the seal.. do correct me if i am wrong please.

doesnt sound right. im a nissan tech and have done many, many tail lamps in my time, including my own on my g. you should not have to pry apart the red lens from the housing in any way at all. you should be abel to twist the bulb sockets out from the backside of the housing to reveal the bulbs.

if you do not know what a bulb socket is, its the black round thing with two tabs on it with the two wires going into it. behind that, is where youll find your bulb

its not a G but its a general picture of what a bulb socket will look like. you need to remove these from the back of the housing

from looking at your pixs you already have jdm taillights. your blinker are amber when blinking correct? also you dont have a small bulb in the corner of the lights (#4 on the pix). if you removed them already they should look the pix attached minus #4.

1 is the reverse bulb. twist and remove to access bulb.

2 is to the led plug.

3 turn signal bulb. twist to remove also

4 is only in the usdm models, you shouldn't have this.

all you need to do is cut the wires from #1 near the plug, after the seal.

^ ehh... option, yes. but not very attractive. does anyone know what voltage the uk rear fogs put out back there? or is it just a dual filament bulb or what?

thanks for that and the picture, ill take a look again, but from what i can remember. the bulb wasnt accessible unless you took the red casing off (which was all sealed up)

ill try again

the seal is a rubber circle that stops water from getting into the car. in my pix you see a wrote "tap here" and the seal is the black rubber on the right of that. i say tap there so your wires will be inside the car unexposed to the elements. but you can tap the wire anywhere after the seal to the actual plug.

and just like ERKLEP said, you just need to twist the socket to get the bulbs out of the housings.

good luck.

i should really take the housing out again and take a look again. take pics too this time.

so if i can get to the bulb, im guessing itl be tricky as heck to rewire it to a new switch in the car?

well you could try and figure out where the old switch went? did you check a FSM at all to see if its mentioned at all? maybe its got wires goin somewhere or it powers a relay or somethin.
if you have to run a wire, that wouldnt be that bad, it would be almost the same thing as putting in a power wire for an amp, just a lot smaller.
