Diamond Eyes ;)
From reading, it sounds like you drilled holes in the actual reflector portion of the pod (back piece) I could only imagine this screwed up your low/high beam output as the leds/holes in the reflector dish would impede the beam. Also, try not to run the leds whenever the headlights are on. People experience problems with the heat because they are on when they are being heated up causing it to short. Now if these were mounted on the front portion on the pod, then I could see how it would not impeded the beam.
no output effect at all.... not even a little bit... but im running piaa 6600K's ... maybe with stock 4300K's but im not sure...... my headlight beam is as crisp and sharp as it was before the mod and the color output of my D2S bulbs hasnt changed even a little bit.... The most annoying process is re-aiming the projectors.... cincitydesigns does these similar but i dont like the placement they use for the led's bcuz u can see the color dots
lol..... I have had these on for approx 50 running hours and havent had 1 issue
.... and eventually like our expensive aftermarket xenon bulbs ... if/and when they burn out.... I'll swap them out easily with minimal effort and fairly cheap too... im not worried about shorts at all..... my wiring and 90% of the bulbs themselves are outside the back of the projector pod covered in high temp rtv.... pictures of the inside of the pod should clear up any confusion

post a detailed diy with pics if possible..this is a great looking mod..i guess as for shorts and heat issues..only time will tell.
great mod man..looks really sweet

50 hours? A typical LED has a lifetime of 10,000 hours+. I suspect these LED's will be dead within a year. Thats fine if you know how to change them out, and they are easily accessible without opening the headlight, but for the majority of people this is going to be a very expensive investment. Too many times has this been tried on various projectors with failure within months.

He's offered a DIY which anyone attempting to do this is probably already going to be familliar with opening their lights to begin with. So if a bulb goes out due to the heat they'll already know what they have to do to remedy the problem. No need to criticize his mod because you don't think his bulbs will last.
As I read back thru the OP's posts in this thread he never even asked for options so why you giving yours?

wow 10,000hrs huh...... I guess they are going to last a LOT longer than I expected.... to be dead within a year after 10,000hrs.... Id have to run my eyes atleast an hr/day... everyday .... for that year ... lol
for the majority of people who can and will perform this mod.... this cost me under $50 .... cincitydesigns charges over 1000$ for them.... dunno about you but Id rather do them myself and save the money. Once you get used to opening lights, and aiming projectors.... this stuff is easy

^ Out of curiousity, I'd like to chime in here. I was curious how IvoryGT's lights that he made CorvetteKid were holding up... the ones with the cool blue LED inside the projector. If i remember correctly, it looked like he just drilled one hole into the area and put a larger/brighter LED in (rather than doing many small holes / small LEDs), but I could be wrong.
I was just curious how that setup was holding up, if either he or CorvetteKid would like to share?

LED's last 10,000+ hours when supplied with the proper current and have proper heat dissipation. Heat cuts that lifetime exponentially. Don't believe me? Wait until IvoryGT comments. We've had this discussion multiple times, you aren't the first one to do a mod similar to this, he's seen failures within a year while trying to address the heat issue.
Looks good, comments about the heat are valid, but its clear you do not care. I would not either, being comfortable opening the housing and replacing them. So many people want a DIY and then will do it and be pi$$ed when it breaks within a year and dont want to open them up again.
I have played with a few other ideas for dispersing heat a bit better for some similar applications.

I've had leds in my engine bay under my plenum for 3+ months now and they still work perfect, and i drive 30+ miles at a time!!! Im sure his LEDS int eh lights will be just fine!!!
