Tapping into switched power in the cabin

Can somebody point me to an easily accessible harness where I can tap into 12V power that switches on with the headlights? If worse comes to worse, I suppose I could tap into the ashtray light.

What are you trying to connect? You can tap into the headlights themselfs or the side markers.

I'm wiring up some ambient lighting. I'd like to stay in the cabin for that.

I believe that the gloves compartment only gets power when the headlights are on. Still, you need to tap before the open/closed switch.

Your wiring some interior lights to go on when only your headlights are on? Just get a switch for them and tap into the battery, adding a fuse, that way they are only on when you want.

They are low level ambient lights. I don't want them switched independently. The glove compartment light seems like a good choice, but I was hoping there would be an easily accessible harness in the fuse box area someone could point me to.

there is a blue wire with red stripe down in the left kick panel. It's the positive wire when teh lights are switched on. You need a 12v test light to check it though because there are a couple that are that color.

I'll have to get a picture of my setup. I had to use that for the dimming of my gauges.

that would be it. There are a few in there so make sure you use a test light to check which one is +12v when the lights are switched on.

use a computer safe test light, grounding test lights can cause damage if poking the wrong wire. The safest way to test wires is still with a digital multi meter

Thanks for the pic akw, I'll be checking this out with a multimeter. I'll post pics in a couple weeks when I have some nice unique ambient lighting to show off.
