Low Beam Problem

I recently replaced my HID's on my 2005 5AT coupe. Now they are out again.I'm wondering if it is the HID itself,or the ballast. How can I tell?

When changing those high intensity bulbs, I always use glove as to not get any oils on them, including skin oils. I know I have heard that it can make them burn out faster. but it could just be a myth. I would rather be safe than sorry. They are too expensive not to error on the side of caution.
