Problem with headlights

Ive got a 2004 sedan and while driving yesterday i noticed one of my lights were out. I got out to check everything, when the low beams are ON, only one headlight works, both fog lights work, both high beams work.

Is my problem just a burnt bulb?
Also how do I check if i have a balest in my headlight? I feel like previous owner might have changed the headlights because i dont have stock bulbs in it.

Yeah, you MAY have a bad bulb. But first check all connections. I had one go out and it came back on by itself and never went out again. Be sure all the plugs are on fully, you might pull them apart and reconnect to make sure they are making contact. Just REMEMBER, DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB GLASS!!! If you do, wipe with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and a lint free cloth. Finger prints will make them burn out sooner.

ok so my car is apart outside and ive got the bulb in my hand. Turns out the cheapo before me decided to put H1 bulbs in (which explains the yellowish color). Now im scared that maybe he took out the ballast for some reason. How can i tell before i go out and buy 200$ HID bulbs?

your lights wont run w/o ballasts will they? they are silver square things attached ot the bottom of the headlight housing with a bunch of wires coming out of them

are you sure you even have HID's sounds like your car came equipped with halogens. Look on the lens cover and see if it says d2r or H1
