H1 bulb or D2R bulbs.
He could have aftermarket HID's in the car....esp if he bought the car 2ndhand.
Doesn't necessarily answer the question really. H1's are halogen and D2R are the OEM HID bulbs, but if he has an aftermarket H1 HID kit then it would light up like the D2R does.

If you mean install 6000 or 8000K then you are installing dimmer bulbs.

I thought the OEM lights were like 4300K therefore making them dimmer then 6000 or 8000K
