I've been looking for a 3rd brake light for my G35. I took out my 3rd brake light (which only took 5 to 10 minutes) from the trunk and not taking out my entire back seat. In addition, you gave some good tips on getting the light housing apart.
My only question is, in photo number 10, did you file down the plastic to make it flush when you put it back on? If you notice on photo number 9, the tips looks different. So, I was just wondering, if I kept it the way it is, would it be an issue once I attached the back part back in.
My light has been ordered and will ship out Tuesday. You just save me alot of money! Thanks!

WOW!!! Just put in the light from the place you recommended and it was so easy to install. It took only 20 minutes to put in place after I've looked over your pictures. The only problem I ran into was:

1- When inserting the new light into the housing, the back part of the housing won't fit correct.

2- The way you fix this is to shave off the ends that sticks out as much as you can like he did in photo #9. Once you do this, the back part that locks the housing together will be flush. I simply took some heavy duty scissors and clipped them the best I could. If you don't do this, the back part of the housing won't clip into place so the light won't slip out.

3- If you went through the back of the trunk to previously get the light out, you can use the single screw that you can get to tighten and hold it in place. It was hard for me to get the other screw out due to metal being in the way. I've heard you can drill a hole BUT I didn't do that. Once I un-screwed the side I could get to, I simply managed to break off the other end without damaging the housing. (BE VERY CAREFUL!)

4- Once I got the wiring joined together, the light actually snaps back into the light compartment. I tightened the screw that I could see and that was it. However, I grabbed some heavy duty tape and placed it over the side that I couldn't screw off.

This was the best and easiest thread out there. For anyone who's light is out, use this thread and pay no more than $45 (light plus shipping and electrical connectors) and NOT the $180 charge for a light on Ebay!

I took mine out and it only took 5 to 10 minutes.

- Open the trunk of the car and you will notice some of the cushion or fuzzy padding covering on the top side under where your light is located.

- Pull all of that off. It's pretty simple and you won't be using it anymore.

- Next is the part where I had to make the decision and being VERY careful.

- If you notice, you can take a screw driver and stick it up the hole opening on the left side and un-screw the bolt. You might need to get a light to see the opening but it's pretty simple.

*** However, it's the right side where you need to make this decision****

- On the right side you can't access the bolt because of the metal being in the way to get it out.

- I made the decision to "carefully" pry the right side off and not damaging the light fixture with no problem. All I did was work the fixture back and forth, up and down and it snapped off. The bolt was still attached to the light fixture when it snapped off which was ok for me. I mean, it's in the trunk and no one will see it anyway. You need to make this decision though!

- The light should come out at this point.

- The last thing you need to do is un-snap the light from the wiring to the car. Just press the small tab that holds the light wiring together and you're done. (pretty simple).

- Once I put the light back in with the motorcycle light from the website on this thread, the left side bolt actually held it into place. Again, I didn't need the right side bolt that much since it snapped off the tip.

- I did take some heavy duty tape and place it on the right side for support. It worked and didn't move at all.

Just be careful on the right side if you want to do it the way I did. Otherwise, you can drill up through the car which will be a pain to do.

I'm having trouble wiring an LED light to the wires coming out of the right side of the trunk. When I connect the wires the LED light stays ON. Any suggestions? As this light should only be controlled by the brake pedal...
