Sealing HID Ballast

I'm replacing the HID ballast because I got water in the headlight and it seeped into the ballast around the plug. it was dripping out when I pulled the ballast. Would putting some silicon around the plug on the new ballast be a good idea?

Couldn't hurt, butyl tape would be a better solution....

Well I'm kinda stuck at home and all I have is silicon. The front end is in pieces and its nasty snowy out to be going anywhere to get anything other than silicon. I'm just concerned about heat. I'm sure this gets warm, but how warm?

Just be careful...don't need anything foreign to catch on fire from the heat.

I still haven't bothered resealing my headlight so I just used some clear duct tape stuff lying around the house and wrapped the entire headlight at the edges. I'll get around to re-sealing it sometime....

The stuff I have says it has a service temp up to 400deg. I'm thinking that means its good up to that temp?

I'm still trying to get the water out of the damn headlight, and it's not going so well.

well I held a soldering iron against some of the silicon for quite a while and it did nothing to it, so I'm thinking it will be fine.

so far no issues. I cant check on it since it is in the car. Like I said I held a soldering iron against some silicon and it did nothing even after holding it for almost 10 minutes.
