G35 Coupe Retrofit Help
G35 Coupe Retrofit Help
So I'm gonna copy this from a thread i posted in some local forums.
Basically im looking for help on finding some sort of bracket to set up my FXR projectors on my OEM projector housing with the brackets. As you can see in the pictures you can see that the OEM g35 projectors have extended arms to reach the adjustment bolts on the OEM housing and the FXR projectors dont. Ive been trying to look around for what kind of brackets to use to reach the adjustment bolts. Been at this project for quite a while off and on so throw some ideas at me
Thanks guys!
This is what the oem projector looks like on the 3 mounting bolts

This is the oem headlight bracket without the projector. Just the 3 bolts where it mounts on.

This is with the fxr projector which is bixenon on so it's most likely the one I'd use

And this is with the tsx projector which I probably won't use cause it's just a low beam and I'd lose the high beam

As you can see I need to figure out a way to be able to mount that fxr projector onto the 3 bolt bracket somehow and idk how I'd be able to do that. I was thinking of an aluminum bracket that kind of extends the holes from the fxr projector to reach the bolts on the bracket kind of like the oem projector where they look like little arms that extend to the bolts

When I did this with the TSX-Rs I just exchanged the lens not the whole housing. The whole purpose of this mod is to use clearer lenses to get more color.
This may help.https://g35driver.com/forums/body-in...color-mod.html

Yea I can easily get the lenses switched out but the fxrs are just supposed to be all around better projectors with a cleaner cutoff and I'm also planning on doing that color mod as well.
As far as I know doing a lens switch from fresnel (oem) to completely clear just helps with clarity.

The cutoff mod to the OEM projector housing will be as easy as doing it on the FX projectors and you will retain the mounting points. Less effort for the same effect. Did you look at the link i posted?
Yea a buddy of mine is doing that mod to his oem projectors actually. But I understand. I'm just looking for a greater output which hopefully I'll achieve with this retrofit.
Here's a link for a quick comparison http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/cont...-FX-IS-e46-LR3
The g35 oem projectors aren't in the comparison but I've found one around driver I believe it was

IIRC, the fx35 and g35 are nearly identical if not the same. I think i read that at hidp few years ago. try finding something about bowls or something along those lines.
Id personally would just swap to e30 lens if you can find any or the tsxr lens. And then throw a mh1 projector at the bottom to do a quad setup. Or even a blazer if thats easier to work with.
As for brackets, Id use a 1/8" thick metal plate or what ever its called (1/8 thickx 1" width) and fabricate it to work with the projectors and existing bolts

I'll probably do that lens swap too then. And yea I actually just thought about trimming the high beam bowl and try to fit the mh1 projector since I do have a pair of those also. Then do tsx projector for the top bowl.
Anyway that's exactly the kind of info I was trying to gather. I didn't know whether to use that size or a thinner/thicker. I was actually thinking of making a bracket that circles around the fxr projector with 3 holes for the fxr holes and then some outer holes that go into the oem bracket. What do you think?

Use which ever size its easier for you to work with. It should be sturdy either way. And do the one which will give you longevity and wont break. So your idea does sound good.
the clear lens just allows for more color at the cut off. There's no light output difference between a fresnel versus clear lens. DOT made all the manufacturers use frensel lens since drivers were complaining that the blue and purple cut off from hid projectors were distracting when your driving.
Also the fx-r was designed to be slightly better then the oem g35 projector. You can tell from the projectors there slights more beam width and a little more intensity at the center of the fx-r from the pictures in the link. Also you can do the washer trick to add more color at the cut off.
It would probably just be easier if you just replace the bottom high beam reflector bowl with the fx-r.
I know on the 03, the reflector bowl comes off and there's already for holes on the metal bracket. You just use the bottom two holes and just redrill your own top two holes.
This way you have oem alignment and you can use your oem high beam adjustments

Yea that's what I meant. And I actually just tried with the high beam and the low beam housing on the bracket and the back (reflector) part of the projector didn't fit in the bracket. I may be able to fit the mh1 down there but I wanna stick with the fxrs. See pic below lol
