Question Aftermarket headlights

I know I'm going to be bashed for this but why are aftermarket headlights so bad?

I'm not talking about cluttered ones but some that look like oem are only about 280 for a pair, compared to about 1k for what projectors cost.

what is it that make them bad?

if they fog up couldn't I just reseal it for an extra $ so there is no condensation, if f it's the bulbs couldn't i replace them for better bulbs and ballast?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but other than that they look cluttered and the led's suck I couldn't find another answer.

The link you provided is a comparison between an oem reflector headlight 03-05 vs an oem projector headlight 06+

He was asking why the after market headlight is so bad, though.
It's bad for many reason but the primary reason that I see is this
The projector in an after market headlight is not a real HID projector. It's a halogen projector. So the output is not as sharp and clear.
I have been itching to get the after market headlight to retro my oem projector in...

wouldn't it be cheaper to still go through the aftermarket headlight route?

since most people bake their 1k headlights to make them black,

in the same process i could buy real HID projectors and replace them and still be under $700

yes and no
oem projectors can be had for around 700 give or take
and it doesnt cost much to just simply paint the bezel

if you go aftermarket route, the lights are around 300
Then get real projector, mostly tsx or murano or some popular 350, which add another 100 -150 or more (pulled from thin air since im too lazy to get real price from TRS), then shrouds to fit, etc.
Then you have to know what you are doing to retro, or just hop on hidplanet to learn (a lot)
so...decision, decision...

Thanks, it's just the extra work and difficulty in setting it up, but if it means saving money and learning more about retrofitting I'd take the time to learn

I personally don't see anything wrong with them. I have a pair on my coupe and I love them. I see just fine at night and I get complimented on them every single day. I think the reason you see a lot of people bash them is more about looks than light output. People will say its "rice" because it isn't what they like or what the general consensus is on what looks good and what doesn't. IMO do whatever you want to YOUR car because it is just that YOUR car. I got my aftermarket headlights because I liked them not because of what the G35 community thinks or what someone else thinks. Plus its not a permanent mod, if you don't like or get tired of them you can always go back to stock lights

Soooo which ones are they... Some headlights are bottom of the barrel and that's what's going to usually be on the buyers mind.

Factory projector... Of course your vision doesn't change.

They look nice with the front end. Is that a pinstripe you are running?

They do come in chrome and almost got them but after I got black installed I was very happy with them especially with my tail light having overlays. If car was a different color I'd probably have gone chrome

Yes that is a pinstripe.

I looked at those headlights, but I heard once the ccfl halo light goes out, you would need to open the housing and have it replaced

And if the LEDs die out the same process.

What's your thoughts on it?

With oem we can replace the bulbs just from opening the fender liner
