D2S bulb question

so I have the D2s and I’m wondering if it is hid or not because I have not found the ballast for it if so. If it isn’t please tell me and what could be a good replacement bulb like a H1 or what. Because I’m looking fo get aftermarket bulbs for my top and bottom of my headlights. Thanks! Btw kinda new to these types of cars.

D2S is a HID bulb. The ballast on these cars are mounted to the bottom of the headlight assembly.

I’m trying to covert them to where if I have to get a bulb it’s cheaper. Instead of the D2s I heard you can switch out the harness and bulb to a H series bulb I just do not know which one. Also I’m getting some different headlights in the future. So I want to change the bulb type to a H series anyways

Also when I go to aftermarket I can just take off the old ballast and put the new on in its spot and the new ballast should just plug into the harness from the old ballast?

There are low-cost D2S bulbs available vs the $50-75/each bulbs from the well-known bulb manufacturers. I bought (2) from Amazon / HID Warehouse for $15 ! For that price, I figured what the hell.... give 'em a try. They've been installed (7) months now. Granted, (7) months means nothing in comparison to the 10+ years the OEM bulbs lasted !

Your car already has HID’s. Why do u want to downgrade to halogen bulbs? If your ballasts still work, all u need is just new bulbs. And like Stevenson already said, u can find a pair of bulbs for cheap online. If you cant find them, let me know. Ill find it for u. I dont think 15 bucks every few years is too expensive.

Here are some HID bulbs for cheap. The color is 6K, which is bright white with a hint of blue in it. Google HID color chart and see if thats what u want. Btw, u do have projector headlight housings, right?

Fog light should be an H1 bulb. U can get it in LED or halogen. Its up to u.

what is the difference between the D2R and the D2S bulbs? What one fits the projector and the other one is not for the projector?

I've seen references to D2R but am not sure about the differences. What year is your car ? I have an '08 and there's only (1) headlight bulb (per side).

D2S is for projector housings.

D2R (R for reflector) is for reflector housings.

The reflector bulbs have an extra piece of metal built onto one side to block some of the light beam to prevent glare coming off the reflectors and blinding oncoming traffic. The D2S bulbs dont need that because the projector focuses the light where it needs to be.
