DIY - Add light to window lock button
For all you guys that are OCD like me and would like to add an LED to your window lock button, here is a guide to do it. I've seen many complaints where people were thinking their window lock button is burned out but it is just Infiniti/Nissan cutting costs in certain areas so there was never a light in it. Since light will pass through the switch icon, I just added an LED in mine so it matches the rest of the buttons next to it. Please use this guide at your own risk since you can really damage your switch or BCM. I will not take any responsibility for this.
Parts needed:
- Soldering Iron
- Solder
- Resistor (Value depends on the LED used. For my particular LED, I used a 2.2K Ohm resistor which is red/red/red)
- 3mm LED (I used "Yellow" as the "Amber" one in my kit was too orange)
- Electrical Tape
- Glue or tape to hold the LED in place (I used some hot glue)
1. Remove the switch trim from your door panel. You can remove it with plastic pry tools by prying the bottom of it.
2. Separate the pieces. They are just clipped on. Just find something to wedge each clip and it'll come apart.
3. Put tape on top of the part where the LED would sit under the window lock switch.
4. Glue on the LED to the board where you put the insulator (tape) down, bend the LED wires to its respective spots and solder it. I usually solder the resistor to the positive side (longer leg).
- The longer positive leg goes to the left side of the 332 resistor that is on the board already. This will give you 12V. If your LED needs less power than mine, you can just solder it directly to the right side of the 332 resistor and share power with the LED for the lock button. For mine, it was too dim so that's why I had to add another resistor and go on the left side. The 332 resistor is 3.2K while mine is 2.2K to make it the same brightness.
- The shorter negative leg will go to any other grounding point on the circuit board. I chose the one right below since it was more convenient. I checked it for continuity with the existing lock LED before doing so.
5. Plug the circuit board back into the car and test to make sure it works. Once you verified it works, put the pieces together and enjoy.

Haha me too. I had the car for 10 years and figured it was okay to be like that until I sat in my friend's FX and the button lit up. I figured I have the resources and knowledge to modify it now so why not...
Hye guys, do I need to disconnect the battery to replace the window switch? I read somewhere that since when ignition isn't on, there is no juice going to window switch, you do not need to disconnect the battery.
Yes you need to disconnect the battery, it's still hooked up to the BCM computer and you never plug things (or unplug things) from a computer while it's energized if you can help it.
If you did disconnect it and the buttons no longer work just turn the ignition switch on/off half a dozen times and it will probably start working again. Sometimes you need to disconnect the battery, pump the brakes, then plug the battery back in.
I've had plenty of issues troubleshooting cars in the past from people unplugging the controller with the battery still connected, it will usually reset with some work.
EDIT: The BCM never turns off, EVER. If the battery is hooked up the BCM is still turned on.
