another projector retrofit

The last time I did my X5 lights, I swore I would never do that again. But I figured that I'd try the E46 projectors for another G35 coupe owner in Socal.

gdragon and phxblue have the right idea with the 3 series projectors. The X5 (5 series) took so much work to make sure that it didn't hit the outer lens, and that the back cover could still go on. These were E46 ECE projectors, and there was a lot more clearance. Still not easy though.

The shroud is made up from a commercial one from hidplanet and polished aluminum cans.

The owner of the car wanted the inside of the bezel painted black, but leaving the outer surface the factory gunmetal color.

I was able to complete this job in 5 hours. Still tired right now. My hat's off to you guys who can do this for multiple people, it's not easy work.

Thanks for the compliments. I PMed some of you guys info such as how much I charged. I'm not going to make this thread into an advertisement for myself. I'm just happy with the results, and take pride in my work as I'm sure other retrofitters on the board do.

Aww...come on, Ed. I think the angel eyes project would be more work, honestly. I'll help you out with the projectors if you want.

Prob a little brighter than stock. Most projectors are more efficient in terms of light output than reflectors given the same type of bulb. The main difference is the cutoff, color flicker, and width of the beam.

http://www.hidplanet.com/bosch.html

Also, ebay has plenty of projectors. I've seen E46 projectors go for about $140 there.

This is the bezel:

The link to the forums on hidplanet has plenty of info for anyone wanting to try this on their own.
