Driving lights (daytime running lights)

I installed a pair of driving lights behind the lower grills tonight. I like having a set of daytime running lights on all the time for safety. Now I need an ignition switched +12 volts from somewhere under the hood to activate the new lights relay whenever the ignition is turned on. Anyone have an idea where I can pick up this switched +12 volts?

You can run the switched wire from inside the car if you can't find one underhood. I'd suggest running a fused power wire off the battery and you'll need to use a relay anyway.

kkh713x, you know how to rewire the fogs to DRLs? If yes, please post the instructions.

Actually JCW has a module that will provide power at 80% of current voltage, to any lights using a 12 volt switched source for activation. Lights supposed to act like normal when switch on stalk is turned on.
Thought about it but then got lazy like Pesti.

Re: Driving lights (daytime running lights)

I had an old 95 bodystyle SHO that just looked too "badass" with all the lights on (and it really distinguished it from its kid brother), so I did something very simple to create "daytime running lights": I took a small piece of black vinyl glued to 30lb paper and cut out a circle just big enough to cover the light sensor. It dropped right into place and can be taken off with tweezers, etc. It was invisible and 100% effective. Tada. Not sure if you'd want to do this to the G, but through I'd throw it out there.

Re: Driving lights (daytime running lights)

Great to hear that you managed to install lights behind the lower front grills. I've been having a hard time to finding a method to do that without having to remove the whole bumper (apparently it's one piece).

How did you manage to get lights behind the grills. Do you have any pics? Glad to hear that someone was successul in getting this done.

Re: Driving lights (daytime running lights)

I just removed about a dozen of the 10mm screws along the front edge of the under engine panel and pulled it down far enough to get my hand in there. I mounted the lights with the 3M double stick trim tape that can be found at most any auto parts store. This stuff does NOT come off once it is pressed down. I have used this 3M product before and had a devil of a time getting those lights off when I burnt out a lamp. The mounting surface in that location appears to be pretty flat and level. I removed the press in tabs along the top of the grill assembly so that I had enough rome to tip the grill forward to reach in to do the wire routing. I ran a separate ground and just touched the hot wire to the battery to see if everything worked - it did. So - now I just need a switched hot wire to wire up the relay with. I'll try to remember to shoot some photos.
