45 mph crash, is this damage normal?

45 mph crash, is this damage normal?

my friend got rear ended on sunday by a m35, this is the damage it sustained. The driver was fine (he wasnt paying attention and rear ended my friend) it looks as if he was driving much faster (the police said it was roughly going 45 mph and there were no signs of skid marks so he was not even braking!)

is this normal?? at that speed (46mph) it is normal... looks like a good force distribution.. even the windshield looks alright

45 mph with no brakes is fast. Especially if the car in front is stopped. Plus it looked like your friend owns a SUV or truck?

Looks like the cars saftey features performed well. Spread the force out pretty good, the windshield is not even broke.

yeah I think the speed sounds right for the visible damage. Would like to see the other vehicle too.

45mph into a stationary object is fast. people die from much slower impacts although of course it depends on what's being hit. that looks very very good all things considered.

actually the speed of a car being pulled by a crane and thrown into the air straight up some 200ft?... i believe will end up hitting the ground going 32mph. and the car was pretty much totaled (the car landed nose first). hence the situation we have here.. the ground was your friend.. and the m35 was the car thrown but going 46mph?.. that looks about right lol..

I just hit a the back end of a boat the other day (insert joke about me not driving in water) and at under 5mph I did $1,200 worth of damage to the hood alone. Main culpurate is the aluminum used to make the hood is light, but easily damaged (according to the three estimators I went to).

If there were skid marks, that would indicate that the ABS was not working. I would not expect to see skid marks from an ABS equipped car, except in the driver`s shorts!

I'll put in my two cents. I've investigated a couple hundred accidents in my short career so far. There are a couple of things to consider. Was your friends car proceeding straight and if so what speed was he traveling at. Was he slowing or stopped? What kind of car was he driving? If your friend was stopped, no way the other vehicle was traveling at 45 MPH. Much slower, other wise he and your friend would be in the hospital. It does appear as if the M went under your friends car, which would indicate you friend was driving a truck or something similar or the guy driving the M was braking and the nose of the car had dived down due to weight transfer. Its hard to tell if the airbags were deployed. The damage appears to be over the bumper which means the sensors may not have been hit. A lot of times, when airbags are deployed, they crack the windshield. Its hard to make a determination though without being there.
