GTR red push button mod M37
So the GT-R push button mod is becoming very popular with the G coupes and the new 370Z. Not only does it look better IMO it gives the interior a nice sinister look. The mod was really simple to do took me roughly half hour to swap out the buttons and also swapping out the LED board. Swapping out the LED board is only necessary if you want the LED's to match the interior of the new M.
Here is the part # and a pic of what you get when you order it from Nissan. Im not sure how much the button cost for regular walk in customers. I have a business account with my Nissan dealer so i paid $31.19 for the button. There is a Nissan dealer who sells the button online for about $40 shipped.
This is what i did to swap the buttons. First i pulled off the chrome bezel all you need is a small flat head screwdriver. All you do it carefully pop off the bezel.
Next you want to pop out the lower panel underneath the steering wheel. You start by carefully pulling the side closest to the push button start. You may or may not have to drop the whole panel (depending on the size of your hand). In my case i just popped off the one side and i had access to the button behind the piece that holds the push button module.
You want to give it a bit of force and the actual push start button should separate from the outer plastic housing. You'll need a small flat head to help pry it out of the housing. Then you just unplug the clip from the push button by pressing on the brown clip.
Next step is optional if you want to swap out LED board or use the board that comes with the GT-R button. To swap out the boards there two small clips holding the board onto the button. The clips will be on opposite of each other just use a small flat head and pop the clip and gently pry the board away from the clip. Once you get both clips undone the board will easily slide up and away from the button. Just do the same to the other button IF you plan on swapping boards. If not the button will light up red/amber and it will not match the cars interior lighting. The blue board on the left is the one from the M the brown board on the right is from the GT-R.
After you swap the boards just plug the harness back in and put the new red button into the plastic collar. Then put the chrome trim back onto the push and it should look like this when done.
Enjoy!
