I didnt read the 1st thread but is it the same method as opening up the headlights to open up the tails? Pop them in the oven?

Ive got my old smashed coupe tail which I removed the LEDs from and was thinking about doing this project myself. Id like to space the outer LEDs closer together to resemble the bigger one, to me yours are too spaced out for my liking.

But awesome work, looks great with both circles lit up

Oven method doesn't work for our headlights. You'll need to dremel them apart with cutting wheels. Takes me about 1.5 hours per light.

Ok so Im looking at this smashed tail I pulled apart. What Im planning on doing is dremeling off the little cones from the LEDs next to the reverse light. Then drilling holes in the outer light area and epoxying the cones from the backside, making 12 LED lights just like the bigger brake light. How much room did you have between the back of the chrome bezel and the back of the housing once you put everything together? Doesnt look like much.

Also there are the 2 wires closing the circuit between the LEDs. Did you just splice in more wire to add the new LEDs?

There's not much room, but for what you're doing, you may be ok. Also depends on if you plan on keeping the signal light in that location. I have the circuit board from the sedan donor light sitting behind the smaller ring, so there's no room for the signal light. Hence the reason for my signal lights being moved.

I tried the splicing method, but the LEDs would be too dim as I added them. I'm not great with circuits, so I just added the entire circuit board from the sedan lights.

I tried Dremeling off the cones... didnt work so good so I think Im gonna machine a whole new ring at work next week. Basically cut the back of the outer ring off and bond the new machined one on.

Heres a quick 3D model of what Im thinking.

Looks good. You may get a few people interested in buying a few if it works out. Though it will be a small market of people.

I did my own headlights, and thought this would be a cakewalk... got my dremel and literally gave up after a while, this is a extremely time consuming and tough task, props OP and thanks for sharing !

Yeah, the first time I tried to open up the lights, I gave up after about 30 minutes of dremeling. Then I realized that there's no other way for me to open them up, so I just had to keep dremeling.

It's easier to open up headlights. But the easy thing about taillights is that you don't have to get the aiming absolutely perfect, unlike the headlight projectors.

Thanks. It would be nice to get my wife to drive the car and I follow in her car to see how the lights look on the road, but I'll need to teach her to drive stick first.

Man you could sell so many of these.. You have a great idea in your hands. I would try to take advantage of it. But then again, it is pretty sweet having such a unique set of tails. Nice work!

This set was quite a bit of work, with the two way mirror stuff. But not many people are looking to spend close over one grand on taillights these days.
