To revive a dead thread...

Are you happy with the performance at night? I knew the mini's are not as good as some of the better OEM projectors, but how do these perform compared the stock at night? Improved distance? Improved width?

Thanks!

They are pretty good, honestly not worth the work I had to do to mount them, fit the shroud, cutting up the housing. I
have bought oem 06-07 projectors.. No regrets. I will end up painting these housings eventually, and the oem projectors are by far better the the mini d2s.

really?? and you had the 2.0 or the first gen mini's?

also, i was thinking it would be cheaper cause the 06's are up to like 700 it seems now.

If you're going to do this, I'd recommend you mount the projectors a little differently. They'll be too low if you mount them that way and you WILL have to cut your housing to get them to fit with a projector shroud. I didn't have to cut the housing at all on mine.

the 06-07 head lights use fx projectors from stanley..same manufacturer as the older tsx and s2000 projectors. There beam width and fore ground lighting is superior to the mini's. When your comparing it to the reflector hids, the mini's are superior but compared to a FX or TSX projector it falls short.

Main reason people go for the mini's are the price and ease of install. The FX and TSX projector would require more cutting but will have better output.

I should have a set of stock 06 projectors here next week or the week after. I'll take some pictures of the cutoff from the 06 projectors, Morimoto D2S and Morimoto 5.0 H1s in case someone wants to compare them. I should have done that last week when I hadn't modded the 06 projectors I had.

So, as promised, here as picture from the stock 06-07 projector, plus Morimoto D2s and Morimoto H1 6.0 projectors. All the pictures are of unmodified projectors, the OEM ones I had just removed from a set of lights I just bought and the Morimotos are out of the box from TRS.

First up are the 06-07 OEM projectors:

Yeah, that's why I posted them. Don't really agree with the opinion that 06 projectors are so much better than the Morimotos. Not sure about the old ones but I really like the output on the new 6.0 H1 projectors and they already have that nice blue line out of the box, which was great!

Do the 6.0 h1 fit the stock 06 shroud as a replacement for the stock projectors??

They do fit the shroud, since the lenses are the same size as the stock projectors (2.5") but they wouldn't be that easy to install. You'd have to make a custom bracket to install them. If you already have 06 projector lights, then they CAN be upgraded by putting a clear lens on the projectors and also doing the color mod. With a clear lens they do look pretty good, but in stock form they're no match for the Morimotos.

the stock 06-07 projectors uses a fresnel lens versus the clear lens of the morimoto projectors. If you replaced the 06 projector with a clear lens you would see more color and it will seem more brighter.

Also the Z step is a lot longer on the d2s compared to the short Z step on the 06 projector.

The morimoto are easy to install and there small, but i would still rather do FX, tsx or S2000 projectors and maybe use the morimoto as fog lights.

The FX projectors are too big for the low beam area on 03-05 lights and the housings on those lights are not the strongest, they're pretty flagile actually. Cutting them up could lead to them breaking later on, especially if the projectors hit the housing when the car goes over a bump. I actually did a retrofit where I had to cut the housing a little to fit the projector and the housing broke when the lights were shipped. I ended up buying the lights back and replaced the housings, but I'm not doing that again.
