Debadge fail...

Ill try to get pics up soon...

Last night I tried to debadge my sedan, and, well, failed. I followed the process of heating emblem, fishing wire behind emblem, and then bug and tar remover followed by heating the adhesive with a hair dryer. After many attempts, there is still a very HARD layer of glue that will not get soft and rub off. I am now thinking of getting a 3M pinstripe removal wheel, or taking it to a body shop, because I spent over an hour just trying to get the "G" done. It looks horrible, does anyone have any ideas besides what I have mentioned?
-Mike

Sorry, I just realized I posted this in picture share, can a mod please move to general form.

Take it to a tint shop. They have a special chemical to remove adhesive from tint. They can take them off for you no problem.

maybe your car has been in a accident and they used some type of super glue for the emblems...

i've just did the debadge on the infiniti word only and it took like 10 mins to get the words off with my bare fingers and about an hour with goo gone to rub off all the stuff. it was like 65-70 degrees out with the sun shining right on the emblems, that helped the most.

you sound like your trying way to hard.

well, carfax said no accidents, but who knows, I am thinking the same thing. I may try the tint shop since they're right up the street from where I live. and yes, I think I am trying to hard, everyone says its an easy, quick process.

carfax= crap, but thats another story.

if anything 2 people hit each other and wanted to avoid insurance and one guy pays for new bumper out of pocket. or your trunk was repainted and they shop did that same stuff.

take a picture and us who debadge will tell you if its normal glue or not. it should be very similiar to smashing a grain of rice feel. nothing should be getting hard, well maybe from the heat gun, i never used a heat gun or fishing line, my last car i just used normal sewing thread and that worked out for me. if anything you should be left with a shadow of where the lettering used to be,

let the goo gone/goof off saturate for 20-30min, then keep going over it until the residue is removed. It was not an easy process for me either, but it eventually all came off.

I was using my fingernail, but switched over to using the "U" end of my girl's thicker bobby pin.

It will come off, just stay at it until it's done.

Your badges were probably removed once before and reattached with epoxy. I can suggest 1500 wetsand and buff. If you're not familiar with wetsanding and buffing, take it to a detailer.

Letting goo gone saturate for some time is a very good advice.

However, using bobby pin over paint is NOT a smart advice.

I had concerns about using it also, but the edges weren't sharp so it worked out for me. I should probably strike the bobby pin comment from the record because not they're not all built the same.

Worked for me, no crazy scratches, looks like there was never anything there.

I used a clothes steamer to debadge mine. No problems at all. Once the glue was heated and steamed it wiped right off with a micro fiber towel. Whole process took less than 20 minutes.
