nah, no heat issues from removing those liners. if anything, you'll hear slightly more engine noise.

with regard to the filler, you may be right about it being a screw. i removed mine a long time ago so my memory may be off. if you want to retain the filler, though, i'd replace that clip/screw with a pop rivet so you can remove it quickly.

the windshield wiper reservoir is below the filler. you can put a piece of tape over the mouth if you're concerned about anything falling in there.

That blanket isn't to keep heat off your hood. Heat shields would do a better job of that.
It's there for two reasons
First: If the engine catches on fire, it's a fire retardant that's supposed to help control it... in reality, I've seen plenty of cars burn to the ground and that stupid blanket did nothing.
There's so many flammable things under the hood that it doesn't cover, I don't even know why they bother

Second: It provides a very small amount of sound deadening. You may not even notice the difference though.

Took my underhood liner off recently to make a tiny bit of room for my strut bar. Don't notice any difference re: noise.
