To set the record straight 0 back pressure is the best pressure for most power. Back pressure helps with gas mileage which in turn is a loss in power. More importantly you want to keep the exhaust gases moving at the same rate without creating turbulence. Once you create turbulence then you create pressure. Your stock cats create turbulence and restricts the exhaust for emission reasons. The stock exhaust is created not for power but for gas mileage because it is easy to control or create turbulence in the exhaust system. Once you remove your resonator you will notice a difference in sound which might change to a rasp unless you muffle that rasp with a good muffler.

ok to kinda get back on topic. i have a question that goes with your guys arguments.

so far in this thread it has been argued that we want ZERO back preasure. and its also been stated that we want the xpipe as close to the motor as possible.

my setup - xpipe RIGHT off of the cats. cant get any closer to the motor, into 2.5 piping. into some magnaflow straight through mufflers with ZERO restrictions. back into 2.5 piping and out the back. so i see zero backpreasure being put into my exhaust.

why does everyone say it wont work? sounds to me like i am biulding a perfect exhaust? im not trying to argue. just understand

You can use any sized exhaust you want as long as the exhaust gas velocities are high at all rpm/load ranges.

There is no "optimal" set up. Depends on what you want and what you have to work with.

Engines do not need backpressure. At all.

Not sure who said it wouldn't work. You basicly described a stillen setup for the sedan.

You don't want 0 back pressure. Keep off that notion. You want high exhaust velocities. Period.

Go back and read Hydrazine's posts. It's the only thing all of us agree on. Tony agrees to the exhaust gas velocity theory and that "back pressure" is an incorrect statement about exhaust theory. He's aos a big tube guy at the slight expense of low end torque.

ok going off that i DO want back pressure. and since i am not going for performance here anyways. what do you think about this idea. it would be like sdgenius new setup with the borla canisters. right before it goes through the borla canisters it has resonator type canisters on it. would adding in something like these ANYWHERE in the system help with adding A LITTLE back pressure?

Hmmmm borla has a similar setup to tony's art pipes.

Backpressure is great for gas mileage.

Meis hit it on the nose

yea pretty much the same idea.

but do you think those would cause atleast a little back pressure

Any restriction is a restriction.

Regardless going with a x pipe is more than enough anything added on is a restriction. I strongly recommend a mid pipe or at the least 2 resonators.

what exactly do you mean by midpipe? with the way i have it set up right now it will be

motor>manifolds>cats>xpipe>straight pipe>magnaflow straight through mufflers>bends to get the pipes to the left side of car>tips out the back

^Ah.

I considered building an exhaust.
Look forward to seeing how yours comes out.

Why do people have to sh|t in other peoples build threads.

I built my own exhaust last spring. I went 2.5" pipe from the cats to a dual 2.5 in, 3" out magnaflow 'y' muffler. There's one short resonator before the rear subframe, plus the dual 3" blast pipes and that's it. It's all pie cut, so the fit it as good as it can get, but it's certainly not for anyone without saint like patience.

The short of it is I copied a proven setup (pie cuts aside) and it worked out. If you copy the stillens for example to the best of your abilities it should work out fine. And it'll be noisy haha.
