Oh they rock... I enjoy DS and manual mode, but the advantage of this is that you don't have to move your hands to shift. So if you're switching lanes or doing any "spirited driving" and need to move to/from 3rd gear, you can do it with both hands on the wheel.

Absolutely a recommended mod for anyone that enjoys driving outside of "D"

hey gee35x, PLEASE correct the part # in that quote, the cover should be 48470-jk70a.. I had a typo in that post & you quoted it before I corrected it

using the paddles is SO much better than m-mode with the shifter... with the shifter it's work & inconvienient & most play once or twice & then don't bother with it much... but with fingertips it's really fun & something that you'll use much more often

viguera - this seems like a stupid question as I'm writing it...but I want to confirm since this has been all about the X. I'm assuming that the Journey is plug and play as well for paddles, do you have any idea?

I thought the Journey came with paddles?

Well either way, my guess is that all the cars are pre-wired for them. Infiniti probably builds ONE car with ONE wiring setup, and then plugs in different interior/exterior parts depending on what the car is going to end up as.

Even if the Journey doesn't come with them... it has them as an option. For my X, it's not even an option and the wiring was there, along with the mounting locations. I would be ridiculously surprised if the Journey was any different.

ok, by request, this is a how to for removing the steering wheel/ airbag to install these on your 07+

there are 2 T27 security torx screws holding the airbag onto the steering wheel, those are the ones with the hole in the center of the torx bit., there under 2 little round covers on the sides of the wheel that just pop out. technically nissan infiniti recommends replacing these screws each & every time you remove them... part of the reason for this is the screws come preloaded with loc-tite on the threads, but I've never had issue with reusing them & almost no one really replaces them every time there removed.

you should ALWAYS disconnect the battery before removing the airbag... make sure to move the column all the way up & out before disconecting the battery too, it's easier to remove the 2 airbag screws before disconnecting the battery as you may need to turn the wheel a little side to side, which you can't do with the steering locked & the battery off, but DISONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE UNPLUGING THE AIRBAG!!!

the airbag electrical plug clips are delicate & you have to pop the little black locks up before you can unplug them.. the little black locks are on the back of the 2 airbag plugs, you'll see a smal opening for a screwdriver tip, they just pop up out from the plug a few mm's & that's it. don't force anything & if you break these plugs you'll have to replace the clockspring assy.

once the bag is off, unplug the wheel switches & remove the center nut (18mm or 19mm) technically you should have to use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel, but the nissan/ infiniti's have a lot of taper to there splines & I've always been able to just pull firmly, left, then right, then left again & get it to come off without a puller...

once the wheel is off everything else is self explanitory, note that you must be very carefull to NOT ROTATE THE CLOCK SPRING!!! this is the round part inside that lines up with the steering wheel has the airbag wires coming out... you can let it move a little, but you can't rotate it at all before you put the wheel back on... it'll break for sure... get the wheel straight before you pull it & then get it back on exactly the same... there is even a mark on the wheel & the shaft to line this up again on reasssy.

DO NOT RECONNECT THE BATTERY UNTILL THE AIRBAG IS PLUGGED BACK IN!!

the rest is simple

thanks for the write up, man, 200 bucks to get sport pedals? I'm so getting it....

Can someone do it from start to finish, while taking pics along the way so I will have more confidence in taking off my darn wheel? I just went outside to look at my car, and don't think i want to mess anything up...

I can't say I blame you. If you **** up, it's serious and it's gonna cost you.

This is something that I wouldn't do *now* after seeing John do it step by step in front of me. If the airbag deploys or you break the carrier you're basically SOL. And I doubt the dealer would cover it under warranty. :-)

But now that I've scared you enough, I'd say that it doesn't get clearer than those instructions. The only reason we didn't document the whole thing last night was because we weren't sure this was going to be so easy. We figured we'd check fitment and confirm what else needed to be done, and finishing up was gonna take another visit.

Do you mean that after seeing it be done, you realized how easy it is to screw up, and you wouldn't do the mod?

No, it means that I would get someone else to take off the wheel. It's just not something that I would want to break :-)

The mod itself I would do myself, no problem.
