Just bought SLR...
Good start. Welcome to the world of SLR. If you get more into it, you'll never go back. I'd ditch the kit lens and get something better first. Also, read up on settings and how to take pics in different environments. GL.
before you go off buying new lenses and spending all kinds of money, learn the functions on the camera, understand the different settings, Aperature, ISO, exposure, then work on your composition (read up on the rule of thirds)
chances are that your kit lens will outperform you for quite some time if all you are used to is a p&s camera
