Heat Proof JWT Intakes

I had to put my stock intake system back onto my car for R&D tomorrow for the RPi intake scoops....... so when i came to take out the intakes i touched the intake pipes and they were burning hot... and i mean BURNing hot. so i decided to head over to home depot and get some Thermal Tape... Well after about 30 mins of work here is what they look like.... by the way, the tape will keep the intakes cool and they can take up to 300 degrees F of heat.

I'm surprised the JWT's got so hot.
I heard they were supposed to be one of the best cooling short tube intakes, along with the K&N.
I guess I'll go for the K&N for my car, don't want my intakes to be burning hot...that can't be good for what intakes are designed to do. lol

Good idea on the thermal tape man, plus if you get the RPi scoops made (and they work) then it should stay relatively cool. You should ask them to build some heat shields for you.

You will be in the same situation with oem vs JWT. The heat tape will help both.

Yeah but the OEM intakes don't get so hot, I changed out my fogs after driving to my friend's place and I didn't have any problems touching the intakes with my bare hands.

It probably doesn't matter much either way. The air is constantly moving up that short tract. It doesn't stay long enough inside the tract for the heat from the metal to significantly affect it. What matters more is the temperature of the air that the filter is sucking in.

Although the wrap doesn't hurt.

Actually the K&N intakes are more prone to heat since there is more metal used. And they dont get hot from driving around... they only get hot when you leave your car parked for awhile and since the hood is closed, the engine bay gets hot causing the pipes to heat up.

that looks very professionally done, i might do that if it really helps, do post if you feel any difference that i doubt would be noticable, also the scoops taht you're getting they should be AF intake compatiable as well, so why go back stock?? i know it would show more gains, but IF you can do dyno with stock+scoops AND jwt+scoops, that would be really helpful. Thanks!

that actually looks like a good idea.

Does it really keep the intake temps cooler? I might just go out and get some of this thermal wrap and try this on my CAI.
