GeoBau,

Sounds like you have pretty eclectic (and expensive )taste when it comes to single malt. Laphroig is a little too peaty, briney for my tastes. Macallan 18 is outstanding, but my favorite is Cragganmore. I tend to prefer the Highland or Speyside single malts. If you like Laphroig, then you are probably a fan of Lagavulin (Islay). Bigtime peat and brine.

Apparently I tend to love scotches that make others sick That salty sea air and mud will give you a nice, thick flavor... or make you hurl I usually stick with single malts if I'm enjoying a good cigar with it, but at 23 it's definitely not an every-day thing. Nothing like a oscuro churchill and a nice, peaty single malt. If I'm just throwing it on the rocks at a bar, Macallan's my go-to. So you're probably a fan of Paulteny or Benrinnes? Two or my favorite highland/speyside single malts. You're right about Lagavulin- I love some of the Islay singles... I've heard some very interesting pronunciations of "Islay" over the years... I'll have to give Cragganmore some more face-time this week.

Re: You all should be proud :)

I have to plead ignorance on the Paulteny or Benrinnes. I have attended an annual single malt scotch tasting for the last 5 years, put on by a good friend of mine, but we have never had those two scotches on the menu. We sample 6 new single malts each year, and among the 30 or so scotches I have tried at the tastings, Cragganmore and Lagavulin are the only ones that have made it onto my personal purchase list. I will try other singlemalts when out at the bars, but I find that ordering a scotch at a bar often results in a less than satisfactory drinking experience. Maybe they are watered down at the bars. At any rate, I am now intrigued by your suggestions and will have to check out the Paulteny and Benrinnes the next opportunity that I get.
