Early Morning Rush Hour-Chicago
Early Morning Rush Hour-Chicago
I don’t do much driving in the pre-dawn hours because I work late. This morning however I was driving into the city via 55N from Bowlingbrook and was astounded at the type of driving I was witness to.
Normally when the highway is PACKED people drive at about 20MPH. Not today. Even the right lane was doing 70, And the left was at about 80!
Now I consider myself to be an aggressive driver, so when a 2000 Maxima Anniversary edition started pushing up next to me I figured I’d try to lay the smack down. This was hard to do in traffic. So I did a quick ‘out accelerate’ and that was it. Not for him. This crazy #&%* flies onto the right shoulder and takes off, then cuts in-between the back of a semi and the front of a car (the space between them about 1/2 a cars length.) He's gone.
Later some guy in a new intrepid pulls a similar trick only this time the shoulder has the concrete barrier very close to the lane, plus the barrier is packed with snow making the shoulder even narrower. From where I was I wouldn't have believed that a car could fit in that lane.
Conclusion: not even the late night drunks I normally deal with were as crazy of drivers as the early morning rush hour crowd.

Re: Early Morning Rush Hour-Chicago
I tend to run into a few people a night who want to play a bit on the highway. And a few @$$holes who are just being, well, @$$holes. But that morning was frightening!
Re: Early Morning Rush Hour-Chicago
I try to get out of the house before 7:15 to avoid a lot of it. Slept in today and man they were out. I also like to leave work after 6 to avoid some of it too. But there are always a few. My favorite is when there is a merge of some kind. WOW talk about risking your life.
Re: Early Morning Rush Hour-Chicago
I am on all kinds of streets. I-88, 294 and Ogden just to name a few. All are really busy. Not sure if side streets or expressways have worse drivers. I think the further west you go the worse they drive too.
