What makes the MW special?

This goes out the Britishbloke-
To all the MW folks out there tell me something that makes the MW special to you.

Geo- What do you miss?

I love that we never have to go all the way accross the country to get anywhere. Makes travel nice.

Re: What makes the MW special?

What do I miss? A lot. The people are awesome. I miss the landscapes-- even though they are typically flat, they're green and full of vibrant color and life. I miss tall, solid old trees. I miss gravel roads. I miss deer and various animals. I miss the friends, I miss my bed, I miss the view from my room that looked over the treetops. I miss Beer Sellar with my buddies. Most of all, I miss what I think of as 'home'. A few hours to chicago, a few hours to my buddies in Nashville, a few hours to my friends in Louisville.

The West is nice... I love colorado (about as much as Indy), but Las Vegas is missing some substance. Perhaps when I give it some time and get a bigger network of friends out here I'll think differently, but at the moment I miss a lot.

Re: What makes the MW special?

Change of seasons, even if you hate winter, at least it makes spring so much more fun. And if you do like winter there's lots of wide open spaces for snowmobiling. The ski hills are pretty small, but they are reasonable and not overloaded.

Cheap housing, insurance, etc

Generally less traffic congestion and population density (outside of a few major metro areas).

Easy to 'get away from it all' by heading to the country or northwoods.

Generally less crime

G35s tend to be rarer compared to say California, so you feel even more 'special'!

Things like this make the MW special to me ... a georgious day at Wrigley Field, the Cubs win, and the Thunderbirds flying overhead for the air & water show (not a photochop):

Re: What makes the MW special?

hey, i'm originally from jersey, so can i answer this, too? heh heh.

what makes the MW special to me are the people. ones who make you feel sooo welcome, as if you've known each other forever. like the friends i made in school. or all of my parents' friends. or people like geobau (you count b/c english-born or not, you're a midwest boy!), rydw79, and forte, whom i've met in person. and lmaz and chippy, who i'd love to meet in person... *sigh* at a future meet.

of course there are the close-minded rednecks who go out of their way to be rude to anyone who is darker than a caucasian with a florida tan. to those people, what i usually say is, "yeah can i get a number 1 with a coke, biggie size the drink, and y'all don't be stingy with the napkins, ya hear?"

one other special thing about SOME parts of the midwest -- the lingo. please define:
1. crick
2. cussing
3. bubby/sissy
4. mamaw/papaw
5. warsh
6. sucker (the candy on a stick, not a person)
7. pop (as in coke, sprite, etc)

those are some of the words that confused the crap out of me when i first moved here.

oh, another special thing... (bringing up an old thread) the fact that central indiana doesn't follow daylight savings time.

Re: What makes the MW special?

Tahnks LMaz for that..Lol

I'll tell you my feelings about the Chicago area. Even though I still have a home back in London and get back there as often as possible, I call Chicago home now. I love it in the fall here, beautiful. I love being downtown Holiday shopping with my wife & daughter and I love the fact that even though we live in the Northern suburbs (it's generally not as "happening" as the city) I feel safe. My daughter goes too a great school, we have marvellous friends and even though people still take the p##s out of my British accent, I feel very comfortable here.

Great stuff! Yeah, it is a great place to live for all of those reasons and more.

I'll keep trying to come up with good topics for out MW group in an effort to continue to bring us closer as a group. You are all really awesome and make this board what it is!

Re: What makes the MW special?

Hearing about the snow makes me somewhat envious. I always loved the adventure of trudging through the streets in the winter. BUT, I've got to say I really like the clean car I have out her ein Vegas

Re: What makes the MW special?

i like that we get to use *all* the options on our cars, hehe. how many other drivers get to use the heated seats, heated outside mirrors, and VDC almost every day? and in the spring, when i put the 18"s back on, it'll be like a different car all over again.

no matter where i'm at in the MW, i always feel like i'm home. there's something to say for that, eh?

Re: What makes the MW special?

Cool picture BeerViper!! I was actually at that game, in fact I was sitting on the second balcony on 3rd base side, if you look real close I think you can see me.... j/k...

Like lots of you said, the changing of the seasons is probably the reason I like the MW the best. I wish, however, that winter was ALOT shorter. I love the first few snowfalls and cold weather, but after that I'm just counting down the days til spring! Plus my G35 is soooo dirty and the only way to get it clean is a sponge bath in the garage - which isn't heated - and I haven't felt crazy enough yet to try it. (I have 18" rims so cant goto any carwash).

I remember driving to work one morning and the temp. readout said -5 F! I wish I had my digital camera w/me...

Re: What makes the MW special?

Hey maybe we can do a Chicago Cubs G35 meet! You know, 10 G's trying to find parking around Wrigley Field during a Cubs game, all paranoid that someone is going to scrape your bumper and all

One thing I just realized is how big the midwestern region is (statewise) compared to several others ... West only has 4 states, SE has 7, S has 6, NW has 4. Maybe Britishbloke was right ... the Midwestern forum should be dominating the others!

We're still the best though

Re: What makes the MW special?

My question is, why is Utah and Colorado in the midwest? I thought the midwest stopped at about missouri.

Re: What makes the MW special?

rydw79... i was thinking the same. maybe g35driver.com was trying to lessen the overload that the western forum gets? it seems like the western forum was pretty busy when i first saw it.
