Joliet Sports Car Club Autocross
I know this is late notice but my buddy (C5 vette) and I are thinking about heading to Joliet this Sunday 7/11 for some low key Autocross runs. It looks like a good opportunity to really drive your car the way that it was meant to be driven. This would be my first autocross so I will probably be a little timid at first but then get more brave around runs 5,6,7
Post up if you're interested!
It's only $30 to make 7 timed runs and I believe you have the track to yourself for the run.
There's more details <a href="http://www.jolietsportscarclub.com/racing_information.html" target=blank> here </a>.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it since I was working on putting down new tile in my parent's house. Nobody responded to the thread so I figured there was no interest ... which seems to be the trend around here lately.

Another autocross event is happening on Sunday 8/8. I will definitely be making this one along with my buddy in his modded C5 vette.
$30 for 7 runs ... anyone else interested?

I don't have a G yet (waiting for 2005) and my old Integra is not race ready right now. But I've never seen an Autocross and would like to see one in anticipation of future participation. Can you post details? Exact time?

Check out the link in the first post ... there should be a calendar and other info on their site. I'm planning on being there around 9:00 AM

Re: Joliet Sports Car Club Autocross
Went to the autocross yesterday and it was an absolute blast! Very well organized and I met some very cool people. There were 50 cars that raced ranging from Vipers and 911 Carrera Turbo's to rusted out Corrola's and civics. There were also several girls that raced, 1 in a RSX-S (very good driver) and another in a convertible vette (also very good driver).
I was kind of disappointed in my times compared to other similar cars (330 Ci, Lancer Evolution, S4) but it was my first time out so at least I know what to expect now.
There is another event this coming Sunday 8/15 that I will be attending again. This will be the third to last event this year.
I will post up some pictures tonight.

Cool, thanks for the update. Hopefully I and maybe others from the forum will be able to go to the next one. Oh darn it, it's on Sunday again...tough days for me personally, but I'll still try.

Re: Joliet Sports Car Club Autocross
Well yesterday was a georgious day for autocrossing. I bested my time from last week by a full 2 seconds for a 52.89. This was my 7th run and I was in the "D" bracket (A being the fastest) and was my fastest run of the day. I placed second for my bracket behind a sandbagging Viper R/T that had a 1.23 second handicap to my .30 handicap and ended up beating me by 6/100ths of a second. I was still awarded a plaque instead of a trophy.
There are 2 more events scheduled this year for 9/12 and 10/10. Is anyone out there that *does* things anymore? Or am I just posting to increase my post count?

Sorry dude, family commitments came up this time and I couldn't make it again, although I had mapped it out and everything. Just curious, did the AutoX take a toll on your car at all? Tires, burning clutches, strange smells? Good job on your improved times.

Re: Joliet Sports Car Club Autocross
Hey youngjun,
I totally understand when things come up ... at least you had intentions of coming unlike anyone else around here!
I would say the autoX definitely put excess wear on the front tires and a little rubber from spinning the rears. Other than that everything seems just fine ... clutch is good, no shifting problems, no strange smells.
I will most like go again for the next one 9/12 if I'm in town. It's very addicting and also very comforting to know how your car handles in extreme situations like you experience in the autoX.
