It won't matter if you're driving like a grandma or not... even an inch of powder will give you trouble with non snow tires and any type of incline whatsoever. Even with average rated snow tires, I would occasionally fishtail going 30 mph on a straight road. If I were you, I'd highly suggest driving something else or getting a good set of winter tires.

getting a good set of winter tires is definitely worth it, better than totalling your car and having nothing to drive...plus they're good for 2 to 3 seasons, depending on how much you drive.

On another note... if this gov't shutdown goes through a bunch of state troopers are put on leave.... Anybody in the mood to max out their cars on some country roads?
I the state government does shut down, all state troopers still work. They are essential none will be laid off, unlike me.

Seeing how this will be my first winter with the G would it be fine with just 2 winter tires in back and 2 new all seasons up front? I plan on buying 2 matching 17 inch wheels from a junk yard for the winter tires. I just don't want to buy 4 new wheels and tires when I want to move up to 18's 19's with a slight drop some time in the future.

I am nervous as this will also be my first winter with RWD. I used to be in a FWD Mazda6 which was far better in the snow than I could have ever expected.

that's not the best idea. if your'e planning on driving your g in the winter, you're going to want to get some good winter tires for all 4. plenty of ppl at first think as long as they put winter tires in the rears they will be fine, then they end up totalling their cars...

if you intend to move up to 18's or 19's with a slight drop in the near future, i would suggest you do that with your summer tires. winters in mn can be harsh, so you might as well stick to your stock wheels for the winter and put something nicer on in the summertime.

my girl drives her coupe all year round, and this is what we do for her car. it is a little spendy at first, but well worth it in the end.

I drove a Mustang for 7 winters with all seasons on the stock rims. Never had an accident, but did get stuck a couple times with big snow falls. It def can be done, but it takes patience. If you haven't driven I'm the winter yet with it, I would say like the other guys and get a dedicated set of rims with winter tires. At the very least, buy the winter tires and have them mounted on your current rims and switch back when the snow stops flying.

I'd do them on all 4 corners. Most people just assume that the only thing they need to worry about is accelerating. Not true. Msot accidents are caused by someone sliding into someone else. This can be avoided with tires up front as well to aid in stopping and turning. With snows on all 4 corners, your car will outperform the Mazda, hands down.

Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds pretty clear what I should do. I'll still be making sure I've got my tow strap in the back and my friends with trucks on speed dial come winter time.

I drove my car alot this winter and I had blizzaks on and man I can tell you theY were awesome. I had no issues what so ever. The car never slid or lost control on normal driving. I was so surprised b/c its rear wheel drive and I was impressed. Also when going up steep slopes like my driveway the car didn't hesitate. When I put my regular rims on when I thought we were done with snow I couldn't get up my driveway at all. If your looking for some good tires get blizzaks. I actually got rid of my these winter tires so I wouldnt be tempted to drive this winter and sold them to pawn america in burnsville. They bought em for 250 with the rims and tires (I got em when I bought the car so I didnt care). I also didnt have the space so they had to go. Go get them .. great deal ... I am done winter driving in the G. It just makes doing work on the car a bi@CH.

Blizzaks are awesome winter tires. I've run em on 3 different vehicles I've owned and they never disappoint. Trev, I definitely would have snatched up those 4 blizzaks on rims from you for that price had I known you before you sold them! Although it's probably for the best that I don't drive the G in the winter anyways...
