Mods in illinois

Can someone from this forum direct me to a location that installs mods for a G35 coupe Automatic. Are there shops in the Illinois area that have mode?

Thanks

Dude,

Garage Kwai in Arlington Heights. They put in my Eibachs and did a great job - also the cheapest around.

Uhm... You can install these yourself. Easy jobs. For the stillen intake - I'm sure Chiphead would install it for a six pack and a cigar.

Re: Mods in illinois

Don,

The Eibachs are real nice - really bring the car down a lot. So far no issues with alignment. The front camber can't be adjusted so the steering is not thrown off and the rears are still straight. The front toe-in might need a little tweaking but so far without any issues or uneven treadwear, I'm not in a hurry to do it!

I'll keep you posted on the issue.

Robert, did you get an alignment yet? If so where and how much $?

Re: Mods in illinois

satch,

I did both these mods on my own. Robert (MYG35ZX) also did the 350 duct. Installing these is not hard and unless you have absolutely no idea what to do, I'll bet you can do these mods. I'm not one of mechanical inclination, more a techie guy but doing these mods didn't scare me in the least and everytthing worked out OK. If you would like some help, I'd be glad to offer it.

Where do you live?

Re: Mods in illinois

I am waiting for the rear camber arms I ordered (also got the traction arms). The rear is way out of spec. The fronts are also, but... Anyway, I am using springalign on RT 12 just south of lake cook rd.

BTW, did your G settle more. I wish I took measurements prior to installing the springs - this thing is low.

Re: Mods in illinois

Chiphead, I am also a techi but not with cars more software and computers.
I live in Elmhurst. I just ordered the Grounding kit and that comes tomorrow. I am going to order the Stillen High flow intake because the guy at stillen said it would be better for cold climates???

If you can assist because I have no car tools I would have to buy them even for the grounding kit... What are you doing Sunday august 17.. I would gladly pay you to put in the ground kit....
Stillen I got quoted 200 buck for Lisle infinity... What would you charge?

Thanks Man

Re: Mods in illinois

Robert,

Beer doesn't enthuse me so that's out! A cigar is better but I need the one you got me first!

Satch, I'm a computer type guy too. Built 3 custom computers on my own - no instructions tother than what comes with the products! That's easy for me so I figured doing some car stuff wouldn't be too hard and it's not! Just think like you're building a PC and you'll get through it!

I can help you but not this weekend as I got a bunch of other $h!# to deal with like kids getting ready for school! I offer to email satch instructions and what tools to buy so that he could do the job himself. For the cost of the tools you'd need, youd spend way less than $200.00 and you don't have to pay me! I'm not cheap! But anyway, a metric socket kit with a 10mm socket, a wrench and socket screwdriver and maybe a small monkey wrench is really all you'll need for the grounding kit. When you buy the socket kit, look for one that has two socket swivel links and about a 6" extension arm. Cost will be maybe 40-50 but get a real good kit so it won't come undone when you're working in your car and you won't loose the sockets. The G has a full under body panel and anything you drop will not go down to the floor. I dropped a screwdriver in mine and had to play a game to get the suxker out - bang the under body until you get to a hole and fish it out yourself! The post in the mods section has a link to instructions specifically for the G35.

For the Stillen, keep that metric socket kit around and the 10mm socket handy. That's the only real biotch of the Stillen is a screw that's inside the thing that screws into the frame at the bottom of the box. Trick is the K&N filter and the box have to be assembled and on the intake tube before you can screw this bolt in so the swivels are attached to the wrench and the extension arm creating a two-way swivel head socket wrench. After the box is on and the tubes are reconnected and the hose clamps are slightly tightened, get the swivel socket inside the box and let go down into the box carefully (you don't want anything to detach or you'll loose it), cover the bolt with the socket and start turning. Took me a few tries before the bolt grabbed the frame but once it did, it took about 10 turns and it was done! Other than this bitchy task, the rest was easy. Any monkey can undo a hose clamp. when you undo the stock box, watch for a washer and a screen. you don't need the screen but I think you need the washer. The Stillen box goes on the same way the stock box does so just undo the disassembly of the stock box! Also, be sure to tighten the hose clamps real good after your done. Mine were loose and I pulled in too much air past the MAF and it throws the car's sensor way out of whach and it sputters and coughs horribly until you turn off the engine and restart. Also, watch the Mass Aiflow Sensor box. There's a little thing in there that costs a fortune that tells your ECU how much O2 your pulling in and how much gas i should send to the engine. If you bust it, you're fried. Just handle it with care and screw it on the Stillen box once you remove it from the stock box right away. Less time off the box = less chance you step on it by mistake!

You really should invest this little in the tools. You'll need them down the road if you do any other modding. Also, doing the work youself isn't that trifle. It gives you satisfaction that you did something you thought you couldn't and in the process, you learn a litlle about the car your driving! That's the best hands on learning experience I can think of.

I know exactly how you feel - buy the mod - install it tomorrow.

Good luck!!!

Re: Mods in illinois

satch,

Any Nissan dealer will have the 350Z duct. Some might have you special order it but others that post here have said that with so many 350Z owners putting on intakes, the Nissan delaers may have a few lying around and sell you one for cheap. If you have any relationship at a Nissan delaer, I suggest you visit there first and ask the parts supervisor if they have any ducts. The part number has been posted out in the mods section numerous times. Just do a search on 350Z duct and you'll find it. I think it was mbarrad that posted it. It's also an easy install - just get the vacuum hose on first and then install the rest of it. doing this the same time as your Stillen box would also not be a bad idea!
