Howdy from a new 6mt owner
Hey all - just picked up my new 07 6mt Sedan, and man oh man do I love it. She's platinum graphite with the graphite interior and the premium package.
My story on how I got my G comes with a disclaimer: I am totally "that guy:" my dad bought this car for me. I'm not proud of it, but it's worth being "that guy" to own this amazing car, and hopefully I can treat my situation with the gratitude and my car with the respect that each deserve.
Here is how I finagled my G:
Last year, at the beginning of my senior year of college, I was coming off of a pretty lucrative (for a summer job) internship with a bulge bracket investment bank in New York. I have been drooling over various motorcycles since I was probably 6 years old, but my Dad knows how dangerous they can be having owned a few CBRs in his younger years. Anyhow, I did my best to take the subway instead of cabs, stay away from steak houses, and save up to pay cash for a bike when I got back to school. Unfortunately, I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, so I ended up with an '88 CBR F1 - the generation before my Dad's first bike. It wasn't pretty, but it was all mine and I loved it, and despite parking next to a new F4 RR, my bike was cool in a badass old school kind of way.
Unfortunately (or not), it kept my Dad awake at night knowing that I had something that dangerous and that I tend to be the sort of person who might string it out every now and then. So he made me an offer I couldn't refuse: He said that if I sold it and didn't buy another bike for at least 5 years that he would get me a nice new car as a graduation present. I wanted something sporty to replace the fun-factor of the bike, but something practical and classy as well. A BMW was too expensive (and we had owned one before that had horrendous maint problems after its warranty expired), an Acura was too tame, etc. The G is perfect. So hopefully the fact that I realize how lucky I am at least takes some of the edge of the fact that I don't deserve something this amazing.
About myself: I am just graduating from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. in Finance, Honors and Magna *** Laude (literally missed Summa by .01 - graduated with a 3.89, how frustrating). I'm moving to Atlanta in a few weeks to start my job as a Systems Audit guy with one of the Big Four accounting firms, but came very close to accepting an offer from Merrill Lynch to move up to NYC for I-Banking (of course then I wouldn't have the roads, time, or sanity to enjoy a car
). I played acoustic guitar and sang in an Athens, GA bar band this past semester, and am interested in music, photography, and arts of just about all sorts. I used to want to be a 3D Computer animator and pursue that as a major hobby, but it wasn't going to be an easy way to support a family, or own a G for that matter.
That about does it for me! It's nice to be a new member of the forum, I look forward to contributing what I can.
P.S. - Right now I'm driving a hot PT Cruiser rental car
around Athens while my car I was driving before gets fixed from a rear-ending I received - the G is garaged at my parents house in Atlanta. Once I get it back after the mad car shuffle, I'll post up pics.

First of all, you have accomplished A LOT academically and should be very very proud of that. If I had a son who had accomplished as much as you I would buy him a G too!
Secondly, your quote above tells me you're not "that guy." You're not the typical spoiled brat with rich parents who doesn't appreciate the hard work and money it takes to own such a nice car. You seem very humble and down to earth - which is great and rare these days.
Third - YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE this car!!
Congrats.
You are not "that guy". "That guy" is the ungrateful 16 year-old whose daddy buys him a new G. You should be grateful but you have earned it and should enjoy it. I graduated second in my class for electrical engineering from Embry Riddle but all I got was $500.

Heheh. I don't even want to know what body parts....
Congrats on the G - having nice car does help you move up the ladder. Keep it clean and drive the boss to lunch! LOL.
Looking forward to the pics - and seeing you around the great forum here.

Congrats on getting your new 6MT Woadie! I must say that it's really nice to see someone your age with a solid head on their shoulders. It doesn't seem as common anymore. Props to you and post up some pics of your G when you get a chance.

Thanks for the kind words and warm welcome all! I'm relatively new to the forum thing, but so far it seems pretty nifty. I got a chance to snap a few pictures today, so here ya go:

My night shot skills could use some work. Any photographers out there who can give a few tips? I'm using an Olympus Digital SLR that I'm fairly comfortable, albeit inexperienced, with. If there are any general pointers such as white balance settings, long vs. short shutter speeds, etc., I'm all ears.

Hey I really like the first garage rooftop shot - and the difference between the xenons and the parking fluorescent light. Cool.
AS for night shots... tripod it and turn off the flash. But what you have there is pretty darn good.
