Having SUV withdrawals...

I went from a 2001 Toyota Highlander (which I bought new) to a 2008 G35 journey sedan, nav & prem pkg. I have had my new car for two weeks now. Since I drove an SUV for seven years, I am missing sitting up high. I don't miss the extra space... just the sitting up high. I decided on a G35 because I want to go fast and be able to out run minivans and SUV's from a stand still. I went from a light gold SUV to a bright red sedan. So, from ultra conservative to really in your face. Also, my SUV driving friends think I'm crazy. I'm thinking that I maybe should have gotten the Toyota 4-runner instead?

How long does it take to get used to driving a car instead of an SUV? I have a 16 month old baby and plan to have one more. Do any other mothers out there drive a G35? I researched the car for months... so it wasn't a spontanious purchase. Anyone else have SUV withdrawals when getting this car?

I feel like G35 better fits my personality than a SUV.... but it's not as practical. Am I crazy to have given up practical for my dream car?

Thats a good idea ^^^.

I have a 4x4 and the sedan. The sedan rocks. It will grow on you and you will love it. I honestly don't know how you can say the Highlander was more practical for a family unless you are doing a bit of off roading or light towing .

No, you only go this way once.

I own a Dakota and when I drive it I feel high in it also. But, it does not go as fast, can't corner as well, isn't sexy, can't stop as well, isn't as safe and isn't as much fun to drive.

You have a great car, drive it like you stole it (without the baby) and hold you head high.

My G35 and I are on better terms today! There wasn't much traffic today on the way to work, so I was able to really drive it instead of being in stop and go commuter traffic. I had my hand on the gear shift... and I could feel the vibration of the motor.

I have had my G for over 4 yrs now. I do miss my Mitsubishi Montero Sport though at times. Particularly during winter. But the driving experience of the G is awesome. Its solid. You hop in it and move. The weight ratio is perfect, when you turn you dont sway, when you stop you dont dip. Its glides on the road.
Maybe you would have been better with an FX, the best of both worlds but you made a good choice at the end of the day so dont regret it. An 08 g35 from a highlander is a nice large step up. And the new highlanders are ugly. 4 runner is slow and bulky.

I went from a lifted/ boosted F150 to my G. Took a little getting used to. Biggest thing was not being able to see over other and intimidation factor in traffic. I wouldn't go back to only a truck noew for nothing. I actually almost traded for a FX45 a few weeks ago, but couldn't justify the extra fuel costs, and didn't have enough other pros to make the switch.

I have only had my coupe for a few months but i had a 03 chevy trailblazer. I do admit it was alot more comfortable than my coupe now but i used to hate driving an suv because it was just so big and bulky.

My mother drove Minivans for soooo many years. And for her to go down to a car (Altima) at the time, it took a lot. I think it took her about 1 year to really get use to it where now she says she would never go back.

Why not have the best of both worlds ??
You can sit high, and its quick for a SUV, and you can install a Supercharger for
more speed.

Have you tried adjusting the seat height up? I was messing around with my new G, just checking what my options were as far as seating positions and I was surprised how high the seat adjusted up. It gave a more commanding view of the G itself but didn't do much for traffic. It may help some as it would give you more of the feeling you're used to.
