Smile hello from Tx

whats up guys. im not a G owner yet i plan to be soon enough. I actually cant wait to buy a G35 coupe. Im tired of 12-13mpg so my current vehicle has got to go. I have never owned a car before so this should be an interesting transition. I have thought about many cars i could try to see myself in and i know i wont be able to get anything thats FWD. l like being sideways too much . I current ly have a truck (you can see in sig) and i love it and like the fact that i dont have to watch for curbs, dips or potholes in the roads and such haha. But i guess that will soon all change. I'm on a pretty hefty budget so what i do get will be fairly stock. I should be able to get around 12-13K for my truck, but, im thinking of around 14-15K on a G. I know that some of you may think thats hard to find but where i live its not. I looked at a 2003 G35 coupe today that was 12,500. Granted, It did not have a spoiler, ugly wheels imo, no nav, really the cheapest one you could buy new. I do want a spoiler and the nav would be nice. G's just look naked without a spoiler haha. I'm not sure if i want a manual or auto. I love manuals and know they are fun to drive, but which gets better gas mileage? I'm getting rid of my truck strictly because of gas only but i am also excited to try something different. I honestly cant think of any G35 coupe's that exist where i live, and i like to be different. There are a million lifted trucks and a kajillion ricers, (which i dont want to be a part of). Sorry for such a long first post but i wanted to give yall some insight on who i am and my situation.

Happy 4th of July!
Nick

Welcome to the boards. Where are you located in Texas? Maybe you could meet some other G-Owners locally.

You better get used to avoiding hairy situations. A G35 should not be treated like a truck.
As for planning on modding your G, personally in my opinion, I think the G35 coupes look good with a spoiler, but I like it without the spoiler. Looks much more cleaner, and luxurious. With the spoiler looks too sporty. But, to each his own.
As for the OEM nav, that'll run you around $2000 for parts alone, IF you can get your hands on the parts. It's very hard to find those on the market, and if you order it from factory, it'll be marked up... A LOT. Not to mention installing the OEM nav and running all the appropriate wiring can be quite a hassle. Just get a double din like I have.

Manual or auto... that depends on how you plan on driving. Are you commuting a lot? Stuck in traffic a lot? You probably want an auto. If you're a die-hard manual, get manual. Everybody has their own reasons for picking manual/auto... some people regret their decisions. Choose wisely.
Gas doesn't really matter if you're automatic or manual. It all depends on how heavy your foot is. If you floor it too much, expect poor mileage. Baby it, expect good mileage. Before, I used to get 16-17 mpg. After I took the weight off the pedal, I've been getting 21 mpg.

Since you don't want to be a truck or a ricer, the G is a good start... so long as you don't rice it out. Don't go around asking how much to install Lambo doors, or something... This is just my humble opinion, a G with a spoiler looks slightly ricey compared to a G without a spoiler. At least when it comes to the old 03-05 spoilers with the lil' wings that stick out to the sides. The 06-07 spoiler doesn't stick out to the sides, so it's less subtle. If you absolutely must get the spoiler, go with the 06-07 spoiler... if you want less rice.

And if you don't want ricers always challenging you, drive slow. Even though I'm a sedan, I'm a modded sedan, so even I get challenged by ricers. But, I found that if I drove like a grandma, I'd get better mileage and less annoying ricers challenging me.

thanks for the reply. I'll keep everything you said in mind.

I completely agree with you on the spoilers and as far as the nav goes, I would never add a factory unit if it didnt come with it. All my stereo eqipment will come out of my truck and I already have a double din pioneer in my truck. Is that the d3 you got there? Where in the heck am I supposed to find a dash kit for this thing? You should check out the new F series screens that pioneer is putting out now. They are sweet and have a sweet menu interface.

Edit: I just saw your sig that it is a d3, nice choice.

Welcome

There are tons of G rides in the Dallas area. Try to hook up with the DFW G-35 club. We have monthly meets. Hope to see you soon.

everythingg35.com is sold out.

Or you can private message members on the boards.
These two guys both work for an Infiniti Dealership in Cali.

I love my D3, but after seeing the new F-Series, I want one so badly.
But, I really shouldn't be throwing my money around for a lil' upgrade. So, I'm sticking with my D3 for the time being.

Well, I'm down in Southwest Houston. The Dallas-Forth Worth guys have a pretty big crew, and they have meets together often. Might want to get in contact with them. Come to one of their meets, and see what they're like.

thanks guys for the replies. i went to sewell infinity today and test drove a 2005 G35 Coupe black/black with 61,000 miles and it was 24K just to get a feel of what they were like. they got some pretty good pick up and go. good lord that factory exhaust sounds sooooo incredible. i wanted it so bad. I'm thinking about buying a wrecked one like another member on here did, and fixing it up and it would be a whole lot cheaper. If i do, i would rather have one thats wrecked in the back. if i was staying longer i would hook up with you guys, im staying in the Las Colinas/Irving area right now. But next time im in town, ill have to hook up with some of you guys so yall can take me for a ride in a real car haha.
