New guy in Kiwi Land

Hi Folks

As I've just signed up, so I thought I'd do the decent thing.

I've just up picked an '06 MT6 sedan, fresh out of Japan. Obviously we know them as Skylines over here, but it's the same beast under the badges.

Not planning to do much to it, 'cos part of the attraction for me is that the car is so understated, however it's early days and I'm sure I'll be tempted with a couple of subtle updates.

Here it is just after I collected it ...

Cheers

John

Welcome John! great pickup on the Skyline

As you said...understated is the way to go IMO on these cars! Keep it clean, keep it simple, and you've got a winner!

Thanks jooky, sounds like you and I are on the same page.

dj ... no, no, no. Definitely no modding ... well, nothing that's visible from the outside anyway ...

Seriously though, thoughts are already turning to junking the single DIN Japanese head unit and coming up with something a little more ... creative. Something along the lines of a 10" touch screen / carputer / linked to the ECU ... subtle stuff like that, but for now at least I'm just going to enjoy things as they are ...

Why thank you Sir ...

However, you've got me stumped as to what could be worth the postage to the good ole U S of A, but if it's doable, why not. Send me a pm and we'll see what's what ...

Congrats on your sedan. I originally fell in love with the 2003.0 sedans back in 2002 but am glad I also bought the last year of the first gen's.

Lots of inexpensive mods you can do if there's coupes and 350z's around you. Check out the stickies in the sedan subforum as well as the pic threads for more ideas - but if you're planning on staying mostly stock stay away

Yup, I've heard that there's plenty of interchangeable parts with the Z's (Fairlady over here), and there are quite a few "younger" drivers over here with more money than sense, so I'll have a read up and I shall certainly keep my eyes and my options open.

That said, if it's just bling they can keep it, but I'd gladly accept a genuine upgrade like some hand-me-down Brembo's ...

1. coupe midpipe
2. HR y-pipe (07/08 HR motor 350z's)
3. Revup airbox from a revup (6MT) G35/350z - not sure if you have it already
4. 05-07 coupe 19" rays or 18" 350z track V1's - both lightweight
5. 350z springs/shocks for a 1" drop

Brembo's are nice but I believe the 05/06 OEM brakes stop a little better. Of course, if you track the Brembo's would help you more.

Best mods you can do for the money would be adjustable sway bars and a plenum spacer.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Yup, it's the revup motor, and track days are a distinct possibility.

However, lots of the roads over here awful and I can foresee the need for occasional excursions off the tar seal, so I've got no desire drop the suspension or go for 19" rims.

Besides, the way I see things at this stage, the biggest factor limiting the performance of the vehicle is the 180 lbs of organic matter sat in the drivers seat ...

You could always upgrade that bio-mass to something more effective...

Yes, that would definitely be an upgrade in the bio-mass departement.

However, if all she does is get paid to drive round ovals at 200 mph, then no, she can't drive ...

On the other hand, this young lady most definitely can drive, and she could drive me anywhere she wanted ...
