Legacy GT to IS300 to MazdaSpeed 3, Now G35X!

First of all, I want to say this site was instrumental and necessary in the search of buying an Infiniti. I've learned a heck of a lot browsing this site over the past few days.

Yep, I've gone through some cars in the past few years.

I really loved the '05 Legacy GT and missed AWD ever since I had to get rid of it. Now I'm back in AWD again!!!

Here's my run down of vehicles over the past few years.

'05 Subaru Legacy GT(MT) traded in for '08 Mazda CX-7 (For the wife) which gave me her...

'04 Lexus IS300(AT) which had horrible throttle response traded in for....

'11 Mazdaspeed 3 (MT) which I have had nothing but bad luck with traded in for.....

'05 DGM G35X w/74K miles bought for $13k. I will pay this off 1 year earlier and save another $50/month on payments. Only a fair price BUT everything is in EXCELLENT condition. Previously owned by a late 50's or something employee at the dealership. All maintenance records, new tires, drilled rotors, upgraded pads. Have a look.

Listing removed from AutoTrader..

Only came with a 3k/3 month warranty. The previous owner left one of his CD's in the radio, so I am going to return it today and ask him a bunch of questions, specifically if he has had the sparkplugs changed recently. After researching, it seems that valve cover gasket is immanent fail, and if it hasn't been done yet, I should try and get done under warranty.

Any other advice you have will be taken! Will be a premium member soon enough.

Just got back from speaking with the previous owner.

So, Valve covers were done at 60k miles. It has a Stillen Intake which I thought was stock, LOL. Front and Rear Suspension bushings have been replaced with an Energy Bushing Kit. Front brake pads and drilled rotors have about 12k miles. Pioneer GPS/DVD/Radio w/thermostat face plate change? Rear brakes only about 4k.

Edit: Also the spoiler is not stock, I don't know what kind it is.

I think this was def. worth the $13k. Here are some quick picks I just took.

Welcome to the community. Wow a late 50s something did the mods to the car? Nice! What is your impression on the G35 vs. the Mazdaspeed 3? I only ask because I have a co-worker that has a Mazdaspeed 3 and he wants to run me in our company's parking lot (we have an expansive lot).

If its stock and he is a good driver, he could run the quarter in mid 14's. The BASIC bolt-ons could get him in the 13's, especially if he has replaced the motor mounts.

Good to know. On paper, I should be faster than him with my mods. Him and another co-worker keep egging me on but whatever Our lot is not going to accommodate a 1/4 mile...the most, if I run will be a jaunt to 3rd gear.

how much are you kicking yourself in the butt for getting rid of the 05 LGT

It was between LGT and G35x when i was buying. So hard to find the GT model, so i went with the easier option. G35x has been a great car to me, but i can only imagine how far of i would of gone in the modding world with the LGT. Most likely knocking around 300AWHP/350TQ with a stage 2.5/3 setup.

The IS300 must of been a joke in terms of power but handling isn't horrible.

I think you got all the common problems handled, valve cover replacement, front compression rods are pretty common and its taken cared of now.

The faceplate for the HVAC needed replacement because our radios and HVAC are one unit. So when you replace one you need to replace the other. He has a METRA kit on there so the finish is diffrent, if you want the same brush alum, it will be about $300.

Other then that enjoy the car. Should be trouble free for a while. Oh... maybe if your idler pulley starts to make noise, you can either replace to remove it. Thats about the only problems i have on my 05x with 72k so far.

I really enjoyed the Legacy.

Just from having the G for a few days, I can already tell I'm going to enjoy it just as much. I won't be modding too much. I will def. do the plenum/spacer and replace parts with the ones that go bad. The #1 thing I want for the G is a set of M45 Sport wheels. Anyways, here's some pics of my past cars.

Slightly modded. 05' MT Legacy GT. Best time was 14.1 in the 1/4 mile.

No pics of the IS300 and never modded it. Only had it for about 6 months before I got fed up...

'11 MazdaSpeed 3 MT. Again, slightly modded but never ran at the track. VERY VERY FUN TO DRIVE! However, if in rain and snow it was atrocious.

Shortly after I bought it.

Right before trading it in.
