Question p0340

I was driving home from work one day and i got a weird idle when i slowed to a stop it stalled, it felt like the car was choking and wouldn't let me go over 2500 rpm. When i got it scanned it gave me the code p0340 which i found out was the camshaft position sensor so i bought a new one, after installing it the car ran fine for about 30 sec then began to do the choking again where the idle would spike then drop repeatedly (never went over 2500 rpm). After i shut it off maybe thinking it needed the oil to circulate fully through the system so i turned it on again but it wouldn't turn over. I then put back the old part to see if maybe the one i got was faulty so after installing the old one it turned over but did the choking again. Did i do something wrong or did i miss something. 06 G35 Coupe 125k miles.

Sometimes they don't work DOA. I would recommend swapping another.

Op it's pretty common knowledge here that our cars don't usually play nice with aftermarket sensors. OEM Nissan parts are the only way to go to be completely comfortable that the new sensor will fix the issue. Some members here have had success with other brands but they are few and far between. I get that some of the aftermarket sensors are under $30 and a Nissan one will be up around, or over, $100 but this is truly one repair you don't want to do on the cheap which I think you just experienced. Amazon has damn good pricing on these so check there before you look anywhere else.
