Need help 2 DEAD cylinders
Need help 2 DEAD cylinders
So i swapped in a 40/60k motor from a jdm dealer swore it was good. Started up great no issues put full front end back together and boom timing rattle. Test drive. Flashin cel and misfiring/ backfires . Timings off check fuel good check spark good. Pull two coils in rear driverside no change to how car was idling (great) couldnt even tell it was running on 4 cylinders
I need help im not sure if its savable it runs and drives i really do not want to pull the motor again im not the best with a wrench so timing jobs are not my forte

Did you use only the long block of the donor engine and keep all your existing stuff like fuel injectors, coil packs, all sensors, etc?
What do the spark plugs look like?

Multiple cylinder misfire i pull two coils on the rear driver and it changes nothing to how its idling I believe it jumped time

Are you sure you didn't accidentally swap a couple of the coil pack harness wires? It's really easy to do. I'd be really surprised if you jumped a tooth on the timing chain, that's just not really something that happens on these motors unless something like the chain tensioner or guide actually BREAKS.
Even with a broken chain tensioner (tips sometimes break off) it should still hold timing though.
After the engine swap did it run perfectly normal for a while? No check engine light?
Can you make a video and post it to youtube, then put the link here.

https://youtube.com/@omine1dj Only two videos on there
it has a noticeable timing chatter the video of it driving down the road has the cel flashing from a misfire

Sounds like it's just running on 5 cylinders.
Was the car running normally prior to needing the new engine?
Pull all the plugs and inspect, see if they're all firing.

Yes ive done it all myself i kinda came to the conclusion that the issue with the two cylinders the timing chatter and backfiring i think its a safe bet that it broke a guide
Well you could always remove the chain tensioner access cover and water pump access cover and look up inside the timing chain cover with one of those illuminated borescopes. They work fantastic for stuff like that.
